Special Edition Premier Spirit Of Iron Maiden
It's only fitting that the greatest figure in British rock drumming should play a British Premier drum kit. Nicko McBrain has always had that touch of pioneering confidence that made Keith Moon Premier's most illustrious son.
Since 1993, Nicko has been playing some fantastic Premier drums, and thanks to Premier’s deal with Nicko, you can, if you’ve got the cash, buy an exact replica of Nicko’s drums, in a choice of the last six touring finishes. Wait until early next year, however, and you’ll be able to buy a more modest Nicko signature drum in maple. What we have here today is an eminently affordable drum that’s been adorned with Iron Maiden graphics as part of a separate deal with the band. Hence the name “Spirit Of Maiden.”
Build
It's important to understand this three-tier Nicko-Maiden arrangement since the Spirit is a birch-shelled kit (Nicko plays mostly maple), based on the budget APK series. The idea with this first release is to keep the cost as low as possible and, to quote Premier: "going with maple made it uncomfortably expensive for a graphic shell kit."
“The main selling point is the wraparound finish with an illustration of the group’s famous mascot, Eddie.”
So the Spirit is a five-pack of shells, a 22"x18" bass, mounted 10"x9" and 12"x10" power toms (regular APK toms are 10"x8" and 12"x9"), a 16"x16" floor tom, and a matching 14"x5½" snare drum.
