Bought the HX Effects primarily for use with a monosynth containing no built-in effects, while also using it on guitar/bass in an FX loop. The first unit I received had some issues with the touch capacitance feature in one of the switches, so I was able to get a replacement on warranty that works great so far. Overall I think this product is amazing in both the range and quality of features it contains, as well as the general ease of use. The effects this thing can put out are top notch and this unit is incredibly powerful for a full pedalboard replacement. I prefer to use it alongside my regular pedals, but in a pinch would have no qualms just relying on this unit for all situations that call for effects (no amp sims in this unit). The pitch shifting capabilities are probably its weakest point, but still usable. Along the way, Line 6 has constantly been improving the software and adding additional effects for no added cost! Sonically amazing and incredibly cost effective if you aren't a pedal collector.

The first unit I purchased was rather noisy. There was a persistent static crackling noise, and after checking my cables and different amps, I returned the unit for a refund. The good folks at Long-McQuade ordered a new unit, which I picked up a couple of days later. No more static noise and I'm happy with the new unit. It works well in 4CM setup with a H&K GM40DL. Thanks to MIDI on the HX Effects and the GM40 amp, switching channels or toggling certain amp features is super simple. The HX Effects sounds pretty good and is also a versatile rig control unit. It is very intuitive, the controls are well thought through and editing patches is pretty straight forward. Of course, can also be done using HX Edit. Maybe a touch pricey. I can recommend it.

Really is state of the art. I have a few pedals it can’t quite replicate or feels different in use (Supa Trem, CAE MC404, POG2) so I run them in the loop sometimes. Great way to play with all kinds of sounds and configs, and very convenient to toss in a bag on its own to travel light and set up quick. Great sounding effects and an amazing on-board interface, and the computer editor despite some quirks works alright.

I use this on my board running with a H9 daisy chained using the 4 cable method. I am extremely happy with it. With the power to use 9 effects at once, I can have Comp / EQ and a Gate on all the time and add effects as you want. Once you figure out how to move blocks around, and what effects sound better Pre or post, it becomes a lot of fun coming up with cool HX internal pedal board ideas. To me, the effects are very rich sounding, and over all, an awesome unit that will not disappoint.

I've been an owner and user of both multi-effects and stomp-box pedalboard setups for years and have always been at odds over which to use at any particular time. The HXFX is the next evolution in pedalboard multi-effects, complete with next-gen customization that solves many of the limitations of the old M-series effects units. I currently run mine as part of my pedalboard alongside some compression and drive pedals; I feel like this is where this unit thrives. I use the unit primarily for delay, reverb and mod, but wouldn't hesitate to use it stand-alone for a lighter setup. The unit has enough DSP that I never feel limited by what I am able to create. 9 effects with options for parallel routing has amazing creative potential. The computer interface makes editing, saving and backing up presets easier; however the unit is easy enough to edit on the fly once you take the time to learn where all the settings are.

I have owned mine since March and have used the HX Effects on dozens of gigs since purchasing. The HX is extremely flexible and sounds great... it has yet to leave me wanting more from the unit. Everything I need to do is possible, and I run some complex "multi instruments" setups. I must respectfully disagree with the "Windsor" review... this is NOT the same as past offerings from Line 6. The Overdrives and compressors are fabulous on this device and I have not missed (or touched) my analog drives since I bought the HX. L6 had a noise issue on some early release units but they will replace those if you got/get one... otherwise, there is no noise issue to speak of. Often overlooked is the routing... with the capability of up to 6 individual ins/outs and two signal paths this thing is a lot more than a multi fx if you use your imagination.

*The following is my opinion only, take it with a grain of salt please!* I'd had a typical pedal board for years, assuming that real pedals would always be better than these effects boards. Until one day I was suggesting the helix models - specifically the HX Effect by a very good friend and much Superior guitar player. I will never go back. I ended up selling every pedal on my board (except my Crybaby and BeatBuddy). This board is absolutely jaw-dropping and *brace for cliche* game-changing. You may be thinking that the price is quite Hefty, but it's the price of about 3 or 4 boss pedals and you get 100+ unique pedals in this board overall. Once again you may disagree with me, but chances are if you're reading this review you're thinking about making the change that I did. I highly suggest it.

I'm a long time owner of the Line 6 M9. That is a great unit. But I dare say the HX Effects may be a "game changer" (an overused phrase, I know). The HX maintains the dry signal better than the M9 and offers an across the board improvement in effects quality (even on the Legacy effects). In particular, the delays and reverbs are stellar. I own the Boss DD500 and I prefer the delays offered in the HX. While there are less "whacky" sounds available (i.e., no equivalent of the Terra Echo), the ease of dialing great sounds is really impressive. I've tended to shy away from anything that requires manuals, programming, etc. But the HX is really intuitive. And it seems like Line 6 has really anticipated users' needs in terms of functionality. One last note: The drive and fuzz sounds in the M9 were poor to okay. The drive and fuzz sounds in the HX are really great. I own the Paul C Timmy and can attest that the HX model will get you 95% there. I also own a King of Tone and can say that several of the HX drives hold up really well in comparison. The HX version of the Xotic SP Comp outperforms my actual SP Comp. The "Kinky Boost" is a real standout. Well done, Line 6!

I picked this up hearing good things about the effects taken from the Helix The routing options are great and the Hx takes up minimal space on my board. Contrary to what others may say this is NOT an updated m9 but part of the Helix line of products from Line 6. The effects sound great and it is fairly easy to program. I am still trying to figure out how to use the HX to change channels on my amp but am confident I'll figure it out . One more thing is some people complain about the cost of the unit, but for what you get- that will buy you roughly 4 boss pedals ,with the HX you get so much more. Highly recommended !

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
