Ryan Hollenbeck is an accomplished guitarist and musician of over 15 years. He holds a Diploma in Music Industry Arts and a Graduate Certificate in Audio-Post Production from Fanshawe College. Ryan’s understanding and knowledge of the music industry as a whole allows him to help his students in more ways than just learning the guitar. He is a resource for students who wish to engage in the live performance and recording realms. Ryan has many years of experience as a guitar teacher and prides himself in not only teaching his students guitar, but helping to inspire a life-long passion for music.

Composing Your Story: The Fundamentals of Composition and Songwriting

Have you ever wondered how different musical elements work together to form a cohesive piece? In this clinic, you’ll be introduced to the basics of music composition and songwriting. We’ll discuss the importance of improvisation and musical exploration while covering essential techniques that can help you craft melodies, harmonies, and rhythms. We will explore the structure of popular composition forms and provide insight into the creative process behind composing music, providing tips on storytelling, emotional expression, and crafting impactful lyrics. The artistic process encourages experimentation, and this workshop will provide the foundational skills for anyone looking to start writing their own music.
Shameran Khamo is a Filipino-Assyrian composer and arranger of instrumental and choral music, currently based in London. She graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Music Degree in Composition from Western University. Shameran has collaborated with various ensembles, such as the Toronto Wind Collective, and participated as a composer in Continuum Contemporary Music’s HATCH program, an esteemed summer mentorship initiative for early-career performers, composers, and conductors. In addition to her work as a composer, Shameran is an active piano and theory teacher. She is deeply passionate about music education and its transformative power, as it has significantly shaped her own life. Through her teaching, she aims to inspire the next generation of musicians and foster a love for music that transcends cultural boundaries.
