Intro to Harmonica: Styles, Techniques, and Sound with Gerry Barnum
Gerry will demonstrate different harp styles and techniques, as well as discuss makes and models of a variety of harps. He will also cover microphones, amplifiers, and offer up some riffs and rhythms for solo or group playing. Gerry is a local Nanaimo singer/songwriter, bluesman, recording artist, and music educator. He's a seasoned performer with lots of experience.

Pursuing Rhythmic Freedom: Permutation & Oscillation Cycles with Matt Aasen
Whether you're a guitar player, pianist or drummer, rhythm is the backbone of your playing. With these two simple concepts, we will deepen your understanding of rhythm and time. This clinic will be interactive, so be ready to count and clap! Don't worry - it's a friendly learning environment. Matt holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Vancouver Island University. He teaches both 6 and 7 string guitar in a wide range of genres in our lesson centre.

Introduction to Synthesis with Liam Ross Gibson
This workshop will provide a very brief historical overview of synthesizers and their different musical applications. There will be explanations of the various types of synthesis, as well as an in-depth look at the basic elements of subtractive synthesis (the most common form of synthesis used in analog and analog modelling synthesizers). There will also be frequent musical demonstrations. Liam Ross Gibson is a composer, keyboardist, and teacher based on Vancouver Island. Having previously played with such bands as The Body Politic and Bridal Party, he is currently a member of theatrical electronic ensemble Top Men, and is the touring keyboardist for indie pop group Flawed Hearts and the Waiting Room.
