Rob will demonstrate techniques and real-world theory that allow for greater expression and creativity in your playing. Whether you’re just starting out, or have many years of playing under your belt, knowing your fretboard is a skill that will boost your confidence when improvising and creating new music.

Single Drum Theory with Jeff Towers
The focus of this workshop is on minimalist playing, leaving room for acoustic instruments to shine. Specifically, he will teach you to be mindful of tones and frequency ranges so as to not overpower vocals, acoustic guitar, upright bass, fiddle or any other accompaniments. Jeff has been playing drums for over 30 years. He worked as a drum shop manager at Axe Music in Calgary from 2001 to 2014. He is currently endorsed by Mapex, Remo, Vater and Electrovoice Microphones.

Improv 103 with Tyson Galloway
Tyson will teach the fundamentals of improv by focusing on
• learning basic chord shapes
• using these shapes to compose
• focusing on scale patterns up the neck for soloing and lead playing
• applying chord tones
Tyson has been a full time musician since 2004, specializing in jazz bass, funk bass, blues guitar, and fingerstyle guitar. He teaches all styles of music: classical, jazz, blues, funk, R&B, rock, country, and heavy metal, to name a few. His forte is teaching people to play with others, and improvise by knowing scales, chord theory, basic types of progressions, and learning what is right for each song. He focuses on proper technique, and uses basic theory to ensure a thorough understanding of the instrument, songs, and communication with other musicians. He currently works at the Lesson Centre in Cobourg.

Acoustic Guitar Setup with Chris Gauthier
Join Chris Gauthier of Yorkville Sound for this hands on, step by step learning session based around setting up and maintaining your acoustic guitar. Topics covered will include string changes , regular maintenance, and adjusting the intonation. Chris is a performer, songwriter and lover of all things guitar. He has performed solo, in a duo, and with bands.
