The Hidden Sounds, Hidden Self workshop will highlight key musical ideas from Jeff’s book, Hidden Sounds: Discover Your Own Method on Guitar Series, and goes beyond guitar performance examining ten life lessons learned through musical study and performance.  Jeff emphasizes self-empowerment through music and shares personal stories from his own music journey as a guitarist, songwriter, author, and educator. Jazz Tactics with Chase Sanborn

Trumpeter, author and professor Chase Sanborn has been described as having a unique ability to express complex ideas in simple ways, with equal measures of information and entertainment. Working with a trio of students from the University of Toronto Jazz Program, Chase will unravel the mysteries of improvisation for those who strive to play jazz, or simply listen to it with an informed ear. Chase will discuss how to derive melody from harmony, the difference between sound and feel, why your ears understand more than your brain and much more! Co-sponsored by Yamaha Canada.

Join Juno award-winning musician and songwriter Fergus Hambleton as he discusses inspiring chord progressions from great songwriters like Lennon-McCartney and Jerome Jern, with an emphasis on pop songs from the ‘50s and ‘60s, and lyrics from classic songs of that era. Participants will have an opportunity to sign up to workshop their songs (finished or unfinished).  Part I in the workshop series focuses on popular song forms based in the blues with a discussion of chords, harmony and lyrics.
