The Group of Seven Guitar Project - Kleinburg, ON
Long & McQuade is thrilled to be a promotional partner with the McMichael Gallery's Group of Seven Guitar Project!
Eight masterwork guitars, commissioned from seven world-renowned Canadian guitar makers in homage to a particular Group of Seven member and Tom Thomson, are presented in the round, allowing viewers to explore the various landscapes in wood and inlay hosted by the musical instrument.
The luthiers and their respective artists are: Linda Manzer (Lawren Harris), Sergei de Jonge (J.E.H. MacDonald), Tony Duggan-Smith (Arthur Lismer), David Wren (Franklin Carmichael), George Gray (Frank Johnston), Grit Laskin (F.H. Varley), and Jean Larrivée (A.Y. Jackson). The eighth guitar, inspired by Tom Thomson, is a group effort by all 7 luthiers working together.
Included with the Project is The Acoustic Conversations Series, when the luthiers are paired with renowned guitarists such as Chris Hadfield, Don Ross, Jesse Cook and others, for a Sunday afternoon of discussion and performance. The full schedule can be found here.
**P.S. if you're a Long & McQuade Insider, you'll have the opportunity to win a pair of tickets to each Conversation. Stay tuned for email announcements coming soon. (If you're not yet an Insider, you should probably get on that now!)
