Free Band Clinics in November - Toronto, ON

Our Toronto location will be hosting FREE band clinics for the entire month of November! 

Saturday, November 7th  |  2-4PM
SEBASTIAN KNOX (woodwind/reed workshop)

The extremely talented and knowledgeable Sebastian Knox will be discussing one of the most important aspects of saxophone playing: the mouthpiece. He will be discussing design aspects, performance and playability, tip size, reed strength, chamber size, baffles, facing and anything else you need to know. He will examine and assess mouthpieces, and will also demonstrate how to properly select a mouthpiece for your particular playing situation. All skill levels are welcome so please join us!

STEVE SHIRES (brass workshop)

Steve Shires is coming to show off his latest and greatest brass instruments, from trumpets to trombones. This is your opportunity to meet Steve in person and ask him anything brass-related. His company produces the finest trombones and trumpets currently played by the world’s top principal orchestra players as well as high profile jazz players. This is an opportunity you won’t want to miss. Don’t forget to bring your mouthpiece!

Highly regarded for his insightful and innovative approach to both composition and performance, Greg Osby has become a shining beacon among the current generation of jazz musicians. He has earned critical 
acclaim for his recorded works and passionate live performances with Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock, Cassandra Wilson, Terri Lyne Carrington and Joe Lovano. This is a must see/must hear clinic. Bring your saxophone and compare it to the lineup P.Mauriat has to offer, including the Limited Edition Osby Signature Alto.

JAZZ FM YOUTH BIG BAND WITH JULES ESTRIN

Musical Director and professional jazz educator Jules Estrin will be here with his Jazz FM Youth Big Band for another delightful evening of music. With 20 middle school and high school students from across the city, it is a diverse and extremely talented group. The band performs extensively throughout the year and has had the opportunity to perform with legendary jazz figures such as Joey DeFrancesco, Bucky Pizzarelli, Tom Scott and Lew Tabackin, and has also opened for Al Jarreau at the Brantford International Jazz Festival.

DOUGLAS PIPHER (Selmer historian)

Deciphering the world of vintage and current saxes, Doug has returned from Selmer USA and Selmer Paris where he visited the archives, and he has loads of information regarding Selmer saxophones. Accompanying him will be Selmer Canadian representative Brian Engstrom. Bring your Selmer saxophones and all the questions you can think of to learn the history behind these beautiful instruments and compare them with the latest editions. This clinic is a must for all saxophonists.
