A moderate understanding of Ableton Live concepts and workflow is encouraged. Songwriting and Song Evaluation Seminar

Songwriters will not want to miss this event! Facilitating the workshop will be two of SongStudio’s founding faculty members – Canadian Music Hall of Fame guitarist Rik Emmett, and former Jitters frontman, Blair Packham. They will listen to, and provide feedback on, your song. Songs will be performed live by the writer (an electric keyboard and acoustic guitar will be provided), with performers being selected on a first come, first served basis. If your song is not performed there is still valuable information to be learned from the comments made regarding other songs. Information on the internationally renowned SongStudio program will be available on this evening.

Cuban percussionist Alejandro Cespedes will cover such topics as: basic cajon/hand drumming technique; practicing exercises; is the cajon the new drum set?; playing the cajon in different styles of music. Alejandro Cespedes has studied percussion at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory in Havana, Cuba and the University of Toronto. He has performed as a multi faceted percussionist with Bobby McFerrin, Bernard Fowler, Jane Bunnett and the Buena Vista Social Club.

Introduction to Computer Based Recording with David Miner

This session will introduce the hardware and software components of a computer-based recording system, and demonstrate the practical steps involved in moving from inspiration to a finished mix.  The presentation will feature guitar recording techniques and Cubase 7.5 software, but will be applicable to any instrument or software. Presented by Yamaha’s David Miner, who has been a Cubase user for over 15 years, and the host of Club Cubase Toronto since 2006.  His music and sound design work can be heard on multiple albums, video games and TV series, and he regularly lectures on music production technology.
