Introduction to Live Sound with Tyler Chard and Steve Lilly

This clinic is for musicians who will be setting up the PA before they play, and for techs who will be sitting behind the mixer during the show. Learn to set up and run a PA system for your band, church or private party. Be more confident with your knowledge of PA equipment and make yourself sound better. Tyler and Steve will be demonstrating everything from hooking up the equipment, to mixing and how to use wireless mics. Limited space, registration is required and limited to 30 people. Tyler hails from Bonavista, NL and is a graduate of the Academy Canada Music and Recording Arts program . He is a multi-instrumentalist with many years of experience playing live, recording and doing live sound. He plays with Faster Than Felix and is a PA Product and Rental Specialist with Long & McQuade. Steve is a freelance audio engineer with Mountain Fortress Audio. He has worked with CBC, The Banff Centre, The Tanglewood Music Centre and Festival 500. He has a Master of Music - Sound Recording degree from McGill University. He is a Recording Product Specialist at Long & McQuade.

Basic Guitar Maintenance with Allen Miller and Brad Dooley

This clinic will deal with the basics behind keeping your guitar in top shape.  Humidity problems and other basic set up techniques will be examined. Allen Miller is the onsite Guitar Tech and Guitar Product Specialist for Long & McQuade. Brad Dooley is the Service Coordinator and Guitar Product Specialist for Long & McQuade.

Introduction to Recording with Steve Lilly and Gordon Huxter

Looking to take the plunge into home recording but don’t know where to begin? This clinic will introduce you to the basics of home recording. We will look at signal flow and session set up. We’ll examine why plugins are useful and how to use them effectively. There will be an introduction to compression and EQ, and a discussion on why they are useful for the recording engineer. Limited space, registration is required and limited to 30 people. Steve is a freelance audio engineer with Mountain Fortress Audio. He has worked with CBC, The Banff Centre, The Tanglewood Music Centre and Festival 500. He has a Master of Music - Sound Recording degree from McGill University. Gordon is a graduate of the audio engineering program at The Centre for Arts and Technology  in Halifax. He has recently returned to Newfoundland, bringing with him extensive knowledge of production and recording techniques. Stephen and Gordon are Recording Product Specialists with Long & McQuade.

Cymbal and Drum Head Selection with Ted Rice and Stéphane Pellerin

Have you wondered why certain cymbals are used? Why would you use a single ply head over a double ply head? Does it make a difference which head type you use on the top or the bottom of your drum? Why do cymbals not have a distinct pitch? All of these questions and more will be answered during this clinic. Ted is a 30 year veteran of the local music scene, currently playing drums with local band The Replacements. He is a Drum Product Specialist with Long & McQuade. Stéphane has played with the University of Moncton Percussion Group and with local rock group King Ego. He currently plays with the Conception Bay South Music School Concert Band. He is a Band and Percussion Specialist with Long & McQuade.
