FREE Drum Clinic: Afro-Cuban Percussion 101 with Trevor Salloum - Vancouver, BC

This workshop is now full.

This free class will focus on the fundamentals of percussion used to create the exciting and exotic sounds in popular Afro-Cuban music (Salsa, Mambo, Cha Cha, Mozambique, Bolero and more.)

The workshop will include an overview of the main instruments in this genre, including clave, congas, bongo, timbales, guiro, maracas and cowbell. Participants will have the opportunity to play instruments and rhythms in an ensemble setting.

All levels welcome.

About Trevor Salloum:
Trevor has studied with Cuban master drummers Changuito, Enrique Pla, Roberto Vizcaino, Cutumba and Los Munequitos de Matanzas. He has travelled to Cuba to study at the prestigious Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana, in addition to music schools in Santiago and Guantanamo. He is a best selling author with Mel Bay publications, of such titles as Fun with Bongos/CD, The Bongo Book/CD, Bongo Drumming: Beyond the Basics/CD, The Art of Bongo Drumming DVD and more. He has taught percussion in Canada and the US for over 30 years. Most recently he has been conducting percussion clinics and performing in BC, where he resides. He is endorsed by LP Percussion and Regal Tip Drum Sticks.
