Harmonica 101 with Todd Martin

Todd Martin has been blowin' his harp at some of Winnipeg's biggest events, including the Jazz Festival, BBQ & Blues Festival, Fringe Festival and more. His playing was also featured on the soundtrack to the Buster Keaton classic silent movie, The General, as well as the hockey documentary, Champion City. Come and learn the basics of playing harmonica!  A number of important techniques will be covered, such as single note playing, tongue blocking, vibrato and the different positions of the harmonica. Open to all levels of player and musician. Bring your harp!

Join the ukulele revolution! Kate will introduce you to the ukulele: its background, how to tune, and how to choose a size and style of uke that's right for you. She'll also lead you through basic chords and strumming styles that will have you playing by the end of the session. Bring your uke!

Inside Brazilian Music with Marco Castillo

Brazil-born Castillo has a BA in Music and experience in many different styles. A multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer, he is an adventurer in both life and music, and has rapidly become one of the busiest musicians in Winnipeg. In this workshop, Marco will discuss:
•  The roots of the Brazilian music
•  Culture and folklore
•  The different genres of Brazilian music according to the regions
•  The variety of rhythms
•  The instruments of Brazilian music
•  The Bossa Nova and Samba style and the variations thereof
