Microphones 101 with John Kendall

An ideal clinic for those of you who are new to the world of microphones, or who have a few mics but aren’t quite sure which one to use and when. This presentation will provide insight into different types of microphones and how they can be used effectively for your application. We’ll discuss microphone placement, pick-up patterns, maintenance and accessories that may improve your sound. John has been with Long & McQuade in the Recording and Live PA departments since 2007. He has been an active musician for more than 15 years.

Songwriting to Song Recording: How to Get it Done with Dan Doiron

You want to get your song ideas down when inspiration strikes but you're a songwriter, not a recording engineer, and you keep getting bogged down in the process. We'll examine the different methods for recording, from simple one track demos to full album projects, with emphasis on a workflow that works the way that musicians do. Discussion will include proper signal level adjustment, adding effects, mixing and mastering. Dan has been the Atlantic Canada sales consultant for Roland Canada since 1990. He has been actively involved in the music industry as a musician, guitar clinician, music educator and recording engineer.

Learn the differences in “tone woods,” drum sizes, heads, sticks and more in this interactive presentation.
Ron  has been actively involved in the music industry as a musician, drum clinician and educator. Ron has shared the stage with some of the world’s best drummers via The Cape Breton Drum Festivals.
