Groove Boot Camp with Sammy K

An intensive drum set experience that teaches the skills and foundational drum grooves needed to perform in a big band and beyond. This program includes: drum set assembly and component placement, tuning, individual instruction opportunities for clinic participants and a Q&A period. Grammy-nominated Sammy K has performed with an extensive list of artists including Bob Hope, Dave Brubeck, Lucy Lawless and Burt Bacharach. He created the Groove Boot Camp program and has presented it throughout North America.

Wednesday, March 13 | 7-9pm
Pro Tools 101 with Colin Mitchell

An introduction to Pro Tools, and mixing and mastering using Waves plug-ins. There will also be an opportunity for specific and in-depth questions. Colin has been an audio engineer for over 8 years and is well versed in Pro Tools, as well as other recording software. Colin has been involved in many studio sessions, ranging from full album production to vinyl restoration.

Monday, March 18 | 7-9pm
Basic Guitar Maintenance with TJ Silljer

Learn basic care of your electric and acoustic guitars, including general maintenance, adjustments and setups. Hands-on training for restrings, fine adjustments and saddle height measuring will also be covered. Please bring your guitar, a set of hex wrenches and any other tools you’d like to learn to use. TJ has worked as a guitar repair technician at Long & McQuade since 2006. He has attended training at Summit School of Guitar Building on Vancouver Island, and has worked as a live tech for artists including Colin Cripps (Blue Rodeo/Bryan Adams), August Zadra and Jimmy Leahey (Dennis DeYoung), and Devin Townsend and Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) as well as many local artists.

Fingerstyle Techniques with Ray Bell

Learn fingerstyle guitar accompaniment, from basic patterns to advanced techniques. This session will cover alternate tunings, right hand technique, arpeggio style and playing in 3/4 time. There will be time for Q&A as well. Ray is a guitarist, composer, producer and guitar instructor. He is well known for his flat and finger picking styles and his intricate melodies. His unique sound stems from a deep-seated interest in alternate and open tunings. Ray has toured extensively in Canada, the US and the UK.

Saturday, March 30 | 3-5pm
All About Drumming with Jayson Brinkworth

The session will cover creativity, working with a click both live and in studio, drumming history and influences, dynamics and rhythm. Jayson has played on Number One songs on Canadian radio with Shane Yellowbird, and Top Five hits by Aaron Lines and the Poverty Plainsmen. He has played for royalty (Prince Edward) and toured North America and beyond. He has educated thousands of students, passing along his love for drumming, and has had articles published in international music media.
