Home Recording Made Easy, with Roland's Dan Doiron

You want to get your song ideas down when inspiration strikes, but you're a songwriter, not a recording engineer, and you keep getting bogged down in the process.  We'll examine the many different methods for recording everything - from simple one track demos to full album projects - with an emphasis on a workflow that works the way that musicians do.  Discussion will include proper signal level adjustment, adding effects, mixing and mastering.  Dan Doiron is an accomplished guitar player, songwriter and recording artist in the East Coast scene, and is also the Atlantic Canadian representative for Roland Canada.

Fender's Impact on Popular Music, with Fender's Shawn Crockard

If 50 people walked into a workshop totally set up with tools and materials and were asked to make something, chances are that those folks would make something unique from the other people. Fender has been providing the basic tools of popular music for decades…the Stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazz Bass and Precision Bass. We'll take a look at how different people have used those same basic musical tools over the years and created something completely unique. Shawn Crockard has worked on the wholesale side of the musical instrument and pro audio business since 1993.  He has been spreading the Spirit of Rock 'n' Roll throughout
Atlantic Canada on behalf of Fender Musical Instruments since 2007.

Restringing Your Guitar, with D'Addario's Rob Gooding

We'll examine the differences between different string gauges and string compositions (80/20 bronze vs. phosphor bronze, pure nickel vs. nickel-steel, coated vs. uncoated), helping you choose the right guitar strings for your style and sound. We'll also cover the correct technique to restring a guitar, as well as some maintenance tips to keep your strings in top playing condition. Rob Gooding has spent more than 25 years in the Halifax music scene as a guitar player, songwriter and sound technician. After several years of experience in music retail, Rob is currently the Atlantic Canadian representative for D'Addario Canada.

How to Tune Your Drums, with Alex Daigle

Alex will demystify the drum head selection process by explaining the differences between clear vs. coated heads, and 1-ply vs. 2-ply heads. He'll also demonstrate different tuning techniques for snare drums, toms and bass drums, and popular muffling techniques for each. Drummers are welcome to bring a snare drum with them in this interactive session.  Alex Daigle has years of experience with both pipe drumming and sitting behind the kit, and is one of the drum instructors in high demand at Fredericton Long & McQuade's Lesson Centre.
