Writing Music for TV and Film with Steve Dodd

Steve Dodd is a Calgary-based composer/ producer/ multi-instrumentalist who has been recording and touring for 25 years. He currently writes music for TV shows Jersey Shore, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, A&E Biography, Inside Hollywood and others. He recently wrote for the feature film Blood of Our Own and is scoring a film for Rob Cohen (Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons).

• Using MIDI instruments to maximize your time and output.
• Publishing - how to get started with SOCAN, what to expect from broadcasting royalties
He will also create a sample project, starting from scratch and ending with something that is broadcast quality.

Creative Guitar with Russell Broom

Russell Broom is a JUNO, AMPIA, WCMA and SOCAN Award winner whose guitar work can be heard on projects for Jann Arden, Robbie Williams, Josh Groban, Belle Starr, Emm Gryner, Mae Moore, Jason McCoy and others.

In his workshop, Russell will talk about his unique approach to using the guitar live and in the recording studio, and how to create the textures and sounds for which he is in demand.

Rights & Royalties – How Music Makes Money with Terry O’Brien

Terry O'Brien is the Education and Outreach Manager for the West Coast Division of SOCAN - the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada. He has over 35 years’ experience in various sectors of the music industry. He is also a composer, recording artist and performer of ambient soundscape music under the moniker Anomalous Disturbances.

Currently employed with SF Marketing, Gord Greenwood has worked in the industry for over 30 years in wholesale distribution, over 2 years at BCIT  in electronics technology, 1 year at VVI  as an electronics technician, and 8 years as a full-time musician in Vancouver.  Topics:

   digital television and to wireless systems of today & the future
• AM/FM transmission
• Signal strength vs sensitivity
