Learn to make beats from one of Toronto's best!

Long & McQuade presents Sound Battle Royale Champion and Juno nominated producer Fresh Kils, one of Toronto's sickest hip hop beatmakers, to share tips and tricks on how to rock an MPC live and in the studio. As a winner in the 2010 Sound Battle Royale, he rocked the competition with live sampling, beat making on the fly and the exciting tracks that came off that stage.

Topics to be covered include:

  • drum layering
  • sample chopping vs looping
  • remixing (MIDI syncing with a capellas and mix/matching sequences/patterns)
  • swing programming and different beat styles (from Dilla to Southern)
  • compression and sidechaining/using time-based effects in production
  • beat arrangement and variations

About Fresh Kils:
One of Toronto's most active producers and beat makers, Kils has two Juno nominations this year for his work on D-Sisive's Vaudeville and Ghettosocks' Treat of the Day. Kils is well known for his unique and innovative methods of getting his beats in order - a true master of the 16 pads who might let you in on a few of his secrets.
