FREE Jazz Strings Workshop - Toronto, ON

Jazz Strings Workshop: First Steps to Improvisation, presented by Humber College and featuring Humber College faculty members: Matt Brubeck - Cello & Drew Jurecka - Violin.

  • Bring your fiddle or cello and start down the exciting road of making your own music.
  • Starting with very simple pieces, you will immediately begin improvising easy jazz melodies.
  • Explore walking bass lines, rhythm accompaniment.
  • All levels of players are welcome.

Any students who are considering auditioning for Humber at some future date should take this ideal opportunity to meet and speak to these members of the faculty.

Matt Brubeck is a Juno nominated performer specializing in improvisation on the cello. Raised on Jazz and classically trained at Yale, Matt has performed and recorded with an amazing range of musicians and performers including Yo-Yo Ma, Natalie McMaster, Tom Waits, Marilyn Lerner, The Dixie Chicks and Sheryl Crow. He is currently on the Jazz Faculty at Humber College.

Drew Jurecka was classically trained at the Cleveland Institute of Music. For the past 10 years he has been making a mark in the world of Jazz and Pop - from 5 years as a member of Jeff Healey’s Jazz Wizards to performances with a broad range of Canadian artists including  Jill Barber, Jesse Cook, Ron Sexsmith, Sarah Harmer and many more. Drew is currently on the faculty of the Humber Jazz Program.
