Long & McQuade presents a series of free instrument clinics featuring top instrumentalists and educators. Be sure to bring your instrument!

February 5th, 2-4pm
Ross Wooldridge, Jazz Clarinet

This clinic will cover how to improve your playing: are you playing in tune? Do you need help executing difficult passages? Are you using the right mouthpiece and reed?
About Ross: As well as his extensive local performance resume with the likes of the Dixie Demons, Jaymz Bee, and his critically acclaimed Tribute to Benny Goodman Sextet, Ross has performed with and arranged music for a number of international stars, among them Ben E. King and the Drifters. He also teaches elementary school band classes for the Toronto District School Board.

Lew Soloff, Jazz Trumpet

In this session, Lew will share his experiences from many years of professional trumpet playing, using the most recent trumpet by Sonare.
About Lew: A brilliant high-note trumpeter long in great demand for big bands and session work, Lew is also a distinctive soloist and an expert with the plunger mute. After studying at Juilliard, Lew played with such notables as Maynard Ferguson, Gil Evans, Tito Puente, Chuck Mangione and Blood Sweat & Tears. He has played/still plays and records regularly with Marianne Faithfull, Barbra Streisand, Manhattan Jazz Quintet and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra, to name a few.

February 19th, 2:30-4:30pm
Jacques Israelievitch, Violin

Jacques will be talking about his years of experience, as well as featuring the Luis and Clark Carbon Fiber Viola. If you’ve always wanted to hear a virtuoso violinist in an intimate setting, don’t miss this event.
About Jacques: An internationally renowned violinist, Jacques has appeared with many of the world’s major orchestras. As a chamber musician, he has performed with Emanuel Ax, Yefim Bronfman and Yo-Yo Ma, and is violinist for the award-winning New Arts Trio. He served as Concertmaster of the TSO for a record twenty years, and is currently a full-time faculty member at York University.  In growing demand as a conductor, he has been Music Director of the Koffler Chamber Orchestra since 2005. He is also the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the performing arts in Canada.

Billed as 4 guys + 20 saxophones = mind-blowing music, this clinic is sure to amaze as the group covers musical styles from classical to jazz to pop/rock.
About AllSax4tet: The Allsax4tet showcases the extraordinary talents of four of Canada’s most accomplished saxophonists. They play diverse musical styles on the full range of contrabass, bass, baritone, tenor, alto, soprano, sopranino and soprillo saxophones. Every performance is not only entertaining and fun, but also educational and challenging. Their expanding repertoire of original compositions highlights the musicianship and improvisation skills of these great saxophonists, as well as the range of their incredible collection of saxophones.
