Adult Beginner Guitar Class - Winnipeg, MB

Always wanted to play the guitar, but never got around to it?  Interested in learning in an adult atmosphere with fellow beginners and a great teacher?  Long & McQuade's Adult Beginner Guitar Class, taught by Master Teacher Ian Hodges, is the class for you.

Ian Hodges has been guiding guitar players of all levels - amateur and professional - for over 20 years.  With a professional performing background in commercial music (rock, country, blues), jazz and classical training, Ian can take you to the next level of musicianship in whatever style interests you.

This class will focus on basic acoustic guitar skills:

  • Rhythm/Strumming: control, understanding and creativity.
  • Open Position Chords: the gateway to thousands of songs.  Mr. Hodges has developed methods to help you master these basic shapes on the guitar quickly and reliably.
  • Melody Playing: Playing simple melodies on a single string or across several strings, using pick-style or finger-style techniques.
  • Finger-Picking: basic accompaniment patterns for rock, country and folk styles.

No previous musical training required. This is a class for beginners, or for those who have played a bit but want to know how to move forward.  Mr. Hodges will design a course packet specifically for this class, presenting the material in TAB, standard notation and fret board diagram formats.  An acoustic guitar will be required for this class (steel string folk style, or nylon string classical style).
