Improvising on the Guitar - Winnipeg, MB

Tired of playing the same licks over and over?  Stuck in a rut?  Want to move past copying licks from other players, and start to really improvise?

Ian Hodges has been guiding talented young players from the amateur ranks to the professional level for over 20 years.  With a professional background in commercial music (rock, country, blues), jazz and classical training, this seasoned teacher can take you to the next level of musicianship in whatever style interests you.

This class will focus on improvising guitar solos in commercial styles.  Players will see definite improvements in the following areas:

  • Rhythm: control, understanding and creativity.
  • Technique: faster, cleaner execution of scales, better coordination between the hands, improved strength and balance in the left hand.
  • Theory: understanding chord/scale relationships; choosing which patterns will fit a given chord progression.
  • Ear Training: hearing which notes work in a given context.  Let your ears decide what happens next, not your fingers

Basic guitar skills required. This is not a class for absolute beginners.  Mr. Hodges will design a course packet specifically for this class, presenting the material in TAB, standard notation and fret board diagram formats.
