Alex is beginning his 7th season teaching with us. He teaches piano, saxophone, trumpet, trombone & upright bass & works regularly with Western Canada Theatre & Project X Theatre. Alex is also a member of the Kamloops indie band, Mother Sun, who recently released their 3rd album “Train of Thought” on the Earth Libraries label. This fall, Mother Sun will be touring Japan in support of their music.
A versatile player, Alex is in demand as a live & session player and passes these skills on to his students.
His rate is $29 per half-hour.
emily zinger (Voice, Theory)

Emily is a Voice instructor with over 25 years of experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction) in Vocal Performance & Vocal Pedagogy from King’s University in Edmonton, as well as a Church Music Diploma. Emily’s students have consistently received First Class Honours in both Voice & Piano exams (RCM & Conservatory Canada) & many of her graduates have gone on to post-secondary institutions for voice/piano/theatre & from there, to successful performing & teaching careers of their own. Emily has a passion for the study of voice science and is trained in Somatic Voicework, the Alexander Technique, the Feldenkrais Technique and the Level 1 Estill Method™. She is also Level 1 Certified in Heather Lyle's Vocal Yoga™. Emily loves teaching all styles & all ages.
Her rate is $31 per half-hour.
jared doherty (Guitar, Ukulele)

Jared is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Kamloops. He specializes in acoustic/electric guitar & bass and also plays piano, drums, ukulele, alto & tenor saxophone. Raised in a musical family, Jared took mandolin & piano lessons as a child & continued his musical education by playing bass in his school band. He taught himself to play guitar at 15 and recently picked up the tenor saxophone. Jared records much of his own music and has been a member of several Kamloops indie bands over the last decade, touring around Western Canada and putting on local shows. He is currently part of the local four-piece band Mother Sun, where he writes, composes, sings and plays guitar. This fall, Mother Sun will be touring Japan in support of their music.
Jared welcomes new students of all ages to his schedule.

jayson lockerbie (Piano, Theory)

Jayson is in his 10th year of teaching at our Kamloops location. He has studied RCM Classical Piano & Theory (Level 9) & continues to enhance his knowledge of music & music education. In his spare time, Jayson writes and records his own music. In addition to his love of classical music, Jayson uses pop, rock & jazz in his lessons and teaches piano and theory.
His rate is $30 per half-hour.
kris lipnicki (Drums)

Kris, originally from Poland, has been teaching for over 30 years. With diplomas in both Education and Music, he taught at elementary and music schools in both Poland and Germany before moving to Canada. Kris has played percussion in symphony orchestras in Europe and Canada, as well as drums in rock, metal, and jazz bands. In 2010, Kris opened a private teaching studio and is now looking forward to teaching at Long & McQuade. Kris speaks English, Polish, Russian, and German and teaches students of all ages & levels.
His rate is $30 per half-hour.
rocky naylor (Drums, Percussion)

Rocky comes to us with a Bachelor of Music Performance from Brandon University, specializing in jazz drum studies. He has previously taught both privately and at Fader’s Music in Brandon, MB. Currently, Rocky plays for the Kamloops Beyond Brass Band and directs a Junior Youth program at Summit Drive Baptist. Rocky is excited to be teaching drum lessons at Long & McQuade and welcomes students of all ages & levels.

Sean has over 30 years of experience as a versatile performer, producer & studio musician. He has been teaching guitar, ukulele, bass, & drums for over 15 years while continuing to remain an active performer & recording artist. He enjoys incorporating theory, improvisation, composition & group performance into his lessons.

With over 20 years of teaching experience in Piano & Oboe, Stacey enjoys working with students of all ages in both classical & popular styles of music. She works to instill a strong sense of theory education & technique in her students. Stacey holds RCM Grade 10 certification in both instruments & performs as Principal Oboe with both The Thompson Valley Orchestra and The Kamloops Brandenburg Orchestra.
Her rate is $30 per half-hour.
syed md shabaz (Bass Guitar, Guitar)

Shabaz is a passionate musician from Bangladesh who has been playing bass guitar for over 16 years. He was part of several bands in his home country where he wrote, recorded, and performed live concerts, playing plugged and unplugged. Shabaz's favourite music styles include rock & roll, metal, funk, and progressive. He has developed his own techniques and strategies regarding the bass guitar, including the fretboard, scales, and modes. Shabaz enjoys teaching various technical and melodic aspects of playing the bass guitar, such as slapping, tapping, and right-hand techniques.
Shabaz specializes in bass guitar and also teaches guitar & beginner ukulele.
His rate is $29 per half-hour.
