Ali Marsman has had a strong love and passion for playing and teaching piano for as far back as she can remember. Upon completing her studies at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music, she was finally able to fulfill her dream, and has been happily teaching for the past 10 years … although she did take a short break to publish a trio of books. Ali truly has a unique way of engaging students. She develops lesson plans and goals for each of her students, and with tremendous patience and care, she brings students to whichever goal(s) they wish to achieve in music. Along with teaching piano, Ali teaches music theory and as well as history, and is able to adapt to any ability, or disability that a student may have. She provides music therapy, and in 2008 developed a music and art therapy program for those diagnosed on the autism spectrum , and a wide range of other diagnosis ... most recently, she found a way to teach those who are hearing and visually impaired. Ali is certified Kelly Kirby Teacher; a wonderful program for children as young as 2.5 years old, where they develop the solid foundation needed to confidently move onto the next stages of music, but also uses this method for students of any age who need to learn at a slower pace due to cognitive issues. She took these styles with her when she began her percussive journey but punk beats are not all she can do. Jon Holisko is a professional drummer and drum teacher who has toured Europe, China, the Caribbean and North America with multiple bands. He studied Jazz music at Capilano University and holds a Bachelor of Jazz Performance on percussion. Jon plays regularly with singer songwriter Krystle Dos Santos, reggae cover band Mostly Marley, top 40s cover band TriloJay, and does session work with dozens of local and international artists. Luc Benoit is a local singer, storyteller and support worker from New Westminster, BC. His love of music started when he was 7 years old, when he joined a children's choir where he discovered how much he loved to sing. Since then, he joined as many choirs as he could during high school. Luc also participated in his high school concert bands and jazz bands, playing the tenor saxophone that was passed down from his father. Music has been something that has run in his family ever since he could remember. Typically, family gatherings involved almost everyone playing a guitar, microphones and amps and everyone would play and sing together as a way to cultivate bonds and connections. Luc's older brother, Brenden, used to teach at Long and McQuade and Luc has been studying his brother's teaching methods in piano and guitar. Luc has also been studying under one of Vancouver's best voice teachers, Billy Gollner, who has helped Luc understand the voice in new and expansive ways. Ming-Xuan started his musical endeavours at the piano at the age of 6. He studied under the guidance of Josephine Koh and Low Shao Suan during his time in Singapore, eventually completing his LTCL in piano performance. He didn’t come to singing until he joined the Simon Fraser University Choir, completing his BSc with a minor in educational psychology at SFU. He discovered his passion for singing during his time in the UBC Summer Voice Workshop and has meticulously learned how to use his voice to suit various vocal styles. Ming-Xuan also regularly sings and performs with various local opera and musical theater companies. He is currently pursuing his MMUS in Opera Performance at UBC. As a pianist, he plays and sings for the Beacon Unitarian Church. Ming-Xuan has also had experience teaching the Music for Young Children (MYC) program, learning from his mentor, Charlene Dubrule. Soo Min continued her studies and completed her Master's on Piano Performance at the University of Ottawa. Zack Brannon is a jack of all trades guitarist and solo artist whom since the age of 12 has always persisted in the pursuit of writing, studying, and practicing in all avenues of music genres and techniques. Since 2014 he has worked both as a private teacher and a live/studio session musician and graduated from VCC School of Music in Jazz/Contemporary Guitar. Zack is also incredibly experienced playing and running live shows in many different styles of bands along with his own solo projects.
