Gibson RD Custom: The Cult Classic Reborn! 🤘

Gibson RD Custom: The Cult Classic Reborn! 🤘Watch Video

The Gibson RD Custom is here!  And Justin Waterfield from Long & McQuade Toronto is excited to walk you through it.

Initially launched in 1977, the Gibson RD has become a cult classic, celebrated for its distinctive design, drawing inspiration from both the Explorer and Firebird body shapes. Now, for the first time, the RD Custom joins the Gibson Custom core lineup.

This marks the first Custom Shop-built RD model and the first long scale length solidbody model from Gibson Custom.  The RD was already a handsome guitar, but is extra striking in the Custom getup with the gloss ebony finish, split-diamond headstock and gold hardware.  It features the classic RD body shape with a comfortable tummy cut, a mahogany body with 5-ply top binding, a mahogany neck with a Medium-C profile and long neck tenon, a bound ebony fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, a bound headstock with Grover Rotomatic tuners, and a 25.5” scale length that’s perfect for drop tuning. It simplifies the control scheme and circuitry from the original RD model, and includes updated electronics with 490R and 498T pickups, CTS potentiometers, and a hand-wired harness, plus gold hardware.

Whether you prefer a longer scale, use drop tunings, or love its unique shape, the RD Custom is designed to help you stand out. Experience this cult-favorite guitar for yourself!
