Dylan Dumitru
Born and raised in the United States, Dylan began playing clarinet in 2003. Throughout high school, she performed in the community youth orchestra and All-District band.
In 2012, she left the States to pursue an undergraduate Music Degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, studying under Dr. Paul Bendzsa and Dr. Christine Carter.
While in school, she performed in the MUN Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Jason Caslor, and the MUN Chamber Orchestra under Dr. Vernon Regher. She also performed with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra on the bass clarinet during their performance of Aaron Copland’s Rodeo.
Dylan hopes to bring an exciting and encouraging energy to the lesson centre!

Praised for his “rich vocals and dynamic palette” (Holly Harris, Opera Canada, Fall 2019), Manitoban tenor Adam Sperry has had the privilege of performing with many companies across Canada. Adam is a recent graduate of the Schulich School of Music with a Master’s of Opera and Voice under the tutelage of John MacMaster. Recent highlights include Sam Kaplan in Weill’s Street Scene with Opera McGill, first prize winner of the Zita bernstein Herman Lieder Competition - adjudicated by Elly Ameling, and tenor soloist in Carmina Burana with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Adam is thrilled to join as a voice and piano instructor at Long & McQuade and will apply his thorough experience in opera, musical theatre, pop, rock and jazz, to a holistic learning experience.

ashley carpenter (Piano, Voice)

Praised for her “delightful voice and considerable comedic talent” by Opera Canada, Ashley Carpenter is a Canadian soprano who has had the privilege of performing across Canada, as well as multiple other countries. Ashley is currently pursing a Graduate Diploma in Voice Performance at the University of Ottawa and is a recent graduate from the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University with a Master of Music in Voice Performance. She has a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Voice Performance from Western University. She recently performed the role of Musetta in Summer Opera Lyric Theatre’s production of La Boheme, as well as travelling to New Brunswick where she was selected for the COSA Canada Summer Vocal Intensive program. In 2023, she sang the lead role of Rose Michon at the Canadian premiere of La Jolie Parfumeuse at the Halifax Summer Opera Festival. Through her degree, Ashley sang with UWOpera. A performance highlight includes playing the title role, Gretel, in Hansel and Gretel. Ashley was selected to participate in an intensive opera program in Edmonton, Alberta, performing the role of Anna Gomez in The Consul with Opera NUOVA. When Ashley isn’t performing, she is passionate about teaching voice and piano and hopes to inspire and foster her love of music into her students. In addition to classical music, Ashley has experience teaching musical theatre, jazz, pop, and choral music.

bryan valeriani (Drums)

Bryan has been playing drums since 1982 and teaching since 1995. He has played everything from jazz to heavy metal. Bryan performs regularly with his Latin jazz trio and is a member of the Brian Eagles Band. He has recorded and performed with many groups, most notably with Juno nominated singer/songwriter Kathleen Edwards. Bryan has studied at the world-renowned Drummers Collective in New York City with a grant awarded from the Ontario Arts Council. He has also studied with Jim Chapin, Kim Plainfield, Magella Cormier and Joel Rosenblatt. Bryan has taught for the Carleton University Bachelor of Music program and is a member of both the Vic Firth Education Team and the Hudson Music Teacher Integration Program. catherine gendron (Saxophone, Clarinet)

An avid proponent of music education at all ages, Catherine is currently finishing her Bachelor of Music degree at Carleton University. First developing her skills through the Royal Canadian Air Cadet program, she plays locally with many groups, including saxophone quartets, big bands, community concert bands, and jazz ensembles. Her teaching career began while leading a cadet program of 50 musicians for several years, which allowed her to develop a keen ability to adapt to all kinds of learning styles.

Chestan Tam is a classically trained pianist and recent graduate from the University of Toronto, holding a Bachelor of Music with piano and a minor in composition, under the mentorship of Larysa Kuzmenko and Alexander Rapoport. Beginning his musical training at a very young age, Chestan received his Grade 10 RCM Certification in piano in 2012, and has won numerous awards at the Kiwanis Music Festival over the years. Chestan also has a background in traditional Chinese music, having studied the Chinese hammer dulcimer with Anna Guo of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Although Chestan is classically trained, he enjoys playing music of all genres, and publishes arrangements of popular music on the piano online as a hobby.

Cliff Chamberlain is a well-rounded musician with vast musical knowledge and experience. He has been teaching and performing music for over 25 years in the Ottawa area.
He is well-versed in rock, metal, blues, country, classical, funk and jazz. Cliff's teaching method caters to the individual, teaching them their favourite songs and styles while all along giving them the theoretical foundation needed to progress continuously in their studies.

Dylan Phillips has been teaching guitar, vocals, and songwriting for thirteen years. A graduate of Carleton University’s Music Department with an honors degree, Dylan specialized in classical guitar, songwriting, composition, and music theory. He has performed across Canada, collaborating with classical ensembles, funk bands, folk duos, choirs, and as a solo artist. Teaching students of all ages and experience levels has fueled Dylan’s passion for pedagogy. Alongside his family and home, music has been one of the greatest joys in his life, and he continues to share that joy enthusiastically through teaching.

eyleen li (Piano)

Eyleen completed a Bachelor of Arts from York University, majoring in psychology and completing many courses in music where she learned about music performance, theory, and history. One of Eyleen’s lecturers was world-renowned pianist Antonin Kubaleck who helped her develop a new way to learn about music.
She specializes in classical music and enjoys playing popular music from the 1950s to 1970s. Eyleen likes to incorporate insights from educational psychology into her piano teaching and also enjoys sharing and exchanging information with students while encouraging them to explore a variety of forms of creativity.
Eyleen includes piano repertoire, music theory, exam & competition preparation, and music history in her lessons. This provides a well-rounded foundation for musicians of all levels.

gabriela ruiz (Cello, Violin, Viola, Fiddle)

Gabriela has a Master’s Degree in Cello Performance from the University of Ottawa, where she studied cello with Paul Marleyn, as well as an Orchestral Certificate Diploma under David Currie. She has been active as a teacher and performer since 1997 and is also a Certified Suzuki Teacher. Gabriela focuses much of her performing in the classical genre but has also participated in other events such as rock concerts, Video Games Live and recently in the orchestra for “La Machine”. She teaches both Suzuki and RCM methods for violin, viola and cello.

Harrison is a bassist, guitarist and composer with a Bachelor of Music from Carleton University. He is a part of many musical projects across Ottawa in a wide variety of genres such as Jazz, Reggae, Samba, Funk, Rock, Blues. Harrison has been teaching for many years, taking the complicated aspects of music and making them easy to understand and accessible to all ages. He values creativity and encourages the student to find their own unique voice on their instrument. Harrison's personal career has taken him all over Canada including Ottawa festivals such as: Blues Fest, Jazz Fest and the Festival Franco Ontarien.

Originally from Ottawa, John's been in and around music his whole life, with both his parents being music teachers. He recently got his Bachelor's Degree in piano at Humber College. With 7 years of teaching under his belt, John has experience teaching students of all levels and ages, having taught up to RCM level 8. Having completed his RCM level 10 exam, John has got a wealth of experience. He’s excited to meet and work with students to build a connection with them and to help them grow as musicians.

kyle myrfield (Flute)

Kyle is an active private flute instructor and orchestral and chamber ensemble flutist based in Ottawa, Ontario. Originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Kyle completed his Bachelor of Music Honours in Performance at the University of Saskatchewan studying under Randi Nelson. Currently, he is working towards his Master of Music in Performance at the University of Ottawa under the tutelage of Camille Churchfield. In September 2018, Kyle won the position of Acting Second Flute and Piccolo for the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra for the 2018-2019 season. A dedicated performer, Kyle has attended multiple summer music festivals, including Orford Music Festival and The Consummate Flutist, and has performed in master classes led by Leone Buyse, Alberto Almarza, Soo-Kyung Park, Joanna G’Froerer, Susan Hoeppner, and Denis Bluteau.

manny makris (Guitar, Ukulele)

Manny has been playing live since 1991 and teaching since 1995. He was the winner of the 1997 Blues Guitar Riff-Off at age 19 and was nominated Best Blues Band at the Doheny Blues Society in California in 1999 and the Maple Blues Awards in 2000. He has played many major blues festivals in Ottawa and New York and has shared the stage with blues legends Otis Rush, Kid Ramos (The Fabulous Thunderbirds) and Dan Aykroyd. Manny has played in several different blues and rockabilly bands over the years. He is comfortable teaching students of all levels, especially those that are interested in lead and rhythm guitar. Nate is an active member of the Ottawa music scene with over a decade of experience performing in multiple genres. He plays regularly as a session musician, with his progressive metal group The Aphelion as well as in Blues Rock band Crunchy Flower.
As a teacher, he places a strong emphasis on technique and establishing a foundation from which students can grow and feel comfortable in numerous musical situations. Nate strives to instill in his students the same passion he has for playing, with personalized lessons tailored to how an individual student learns, practical advice from his own playing history, and dedicated instruction.

Reiko is a graduate of Carleton University with a Master of Arts in Religion and Public Life. She has been playing violin since the age of five and has performed with several ensembles and orchestras across Kitchener-Waterloo, Ottawa, and Tokyo. She is a member of 234 Strings, an Ottawa-based trio. She had her NAC debut in 2015 with the Carleton Orchestra in collaboration with the Beijing Conservatory of Music.
