The next generation of the Marshall DSL series amps are laden with Marshall tone, features and functionality for the novice, as well as pros performing on the world's biggest stages. The new DSL models feature adjustable power settings, which delivers all-valve tone and feel, at any volume, from bedroom to stage. The new technology adjusts power to the valves, instead of just turning off valve stages, allowing the amp to remain articulate and dynamic.

Some innovative tweaks to the EQ circuitry have given the new DSLs even greater tonal flexibility. The EQ section of the new DSLs can deliver exactly what your ears are looking for.

Marshall's partnership with Softube has led to the creation of award-winning plug-ins, as well as exceptional tone in Marshall's CODE digital amps. The same team is responsible for the development of the new emulated output feature, found in the DSL series. Both the headphone out, and line out on the DSL models boast incredibly accurate emulation of the famed 1960 cabinet.

The DSL is now more versatile than ever, with new features including discrete master volume controls for each channel, built-in reverb and resonance controls.

Features:

• Gain and volume per channel
• Dedicated resonance control
• High and low power settings
• Reverb
• Softube emulated output
• 3 x ECC83 and 2 X EL34 valves
• Dimensions (W x H x D): 500 x 250 x 240mm
• Weight: 21.4 lbs (9.71 kg)

Question: Do you need a amp cabinet to use this amp
- asked on Jun 5, 2024
Answer: Yes, you would need a cabinet.

Question: Going through the matching 1x12 cab, would it be loud enough to gig with?
- asked on Nov 9, 2024
Answer: It would be suitable for small gigs. If you're playing in a band situation with a drummer, the cabinet would need to be miked for sure.

Decided to create a little Marshall stack with this head and the 1x12 MX cab. Sounds great but do replace the stock speaker to a Celestion Greenback or Vintage 30. With the EL34 tubes giving the familiar Marshall roar thsi is now my best amp. The half power switch is great for the bedroom and the channel switch is quick and flawless. The only thing thats a bit weak is the clean channel but you can beef it up with a boost or overdrive pedal. Gone i the fizzyness of the older DSL15. Well recommended bang for the buck over any of the English made amps that to me are overpriced now.

Was checking out the Marshall DSL20HR head unit on youtube for quite sometime and was really impressed with the overall tones and sounds coming out of this little 20/10 watt beast, it was given mostly great reviews everywhere I looked online, so I finally decided to go in and check it out for myself, it was hooked up to a vertical 2 x 12 Marshall cab, tried it out with an Epiphone SG which is what I play with at home, and it sounded Grreat! So I finally pulled the trigger and bought it! Build quality seems pretty good, and it does come with a good warranty, cosmetically, the finish is very nice and it definitely has that World Famous Thunderous Marshall Tube Amp Roar!! Wow!! Nice clean channel also. This little el34 equipped amp can do it all, clean, blues, rock and metal, with tonnes of gain on tap if you want it, my only gripe is that I wish it had a crunch channel like it's bigger brother the dsl40, still a great 2 channel amp though, right now I have it paired up with a 40 watt 1 x 12 closed back cab and it sounds Totally Awesome! Tonnes of low end for riffing, rhythm and chugging, quite a few people online said it's a bright sounding amp, but with the right cab and guitar it doesn't sound that bright to me at all with my setup, it's just right, although it can be if you want it to be I suppose, say with a Strat, it sounds big fat and chunky with SG humbuckers over here!! Oh Yehh!! I may also get the matching vertical 2 x 12 cab for it at some point too. Big Thanks to Dominic and the sales team over at the West Island store for a great customer service and purchase experience, what a beautiful and well stocked store over there also, very nice! Can't wait to go back for more gear and to see the awesome L&M team again!

My order took some time due to COVID-19 messing up the world which gave me lots of time to read and research this amp. 98% of what I saw told me I would be very happy with it. For the price point this is one fantastic Marshall head. Never mind that its made in Vietnam. [I also bought the MX212 Slant cab to go with it} Important to me was being able to plug into a Marshall and not have my ears bleed. This fits the bill spot on. And the tone is great even at room levels. If this is a concern for you also, be assured that this amp will do just that, nicely. And into the MX212 cab it is simply amazing. I did demo the combo in the store just to check how quiet it could go, and it was nice as well. But I'm sure the 212 cab does a much better job of delivering the beautiful Marshall sound. The on board reverb is decent but you may want to stick a reverb pedal in the welcome effects loop. [Strymon Blue Sky works very well!!] Classic gain and Ultra gain offer a nice balance of sounds from clean to just at break up, to full on heavy metal distortion. A pedal or two in the front to work with the classic gain works very nicely. Over all I am more that happy with this amp. Being made in Vietnam gives me a tiny amount of concern. How well built is it really compared to a UK manufactured amp? Will it last? Lets see. I must add that I did need to return the first unit as it had the notorious sporadic "crackle" issue, something I did come across on online forums with several people reporting it. This is the reason for a 4.5 star rating. [Faulty gyrator according to Marshall]. However, the beauty of shopping at Long & McQuade is their no hassle return/exchange policy. One of the many reasons I shop there and probably always will. The second unit performs faultlessly. I have been using it for a couple of weeks now with no issues. Bottom line...simple great! No regrets so far. If you can find one in stock I suggest you pick it up. Thanks again Long & McQuade Mississauga.

It’s often called the more affordable JCM 800, it’s very comparable just not built in England. I’ve owned this for over a year and never had an issue with it, lots of hours played so the quality is there. It’s a 2 channel amp with lots of gain on tap and nice cleans. It’s got power reduction which is rare for this price range and a full EQ. Reverb is weak but it caters to the crowd and the usual high gain players that want Marshall’s. I play through a 412 cab and it’s loud but also sounds great at bedroom volumes.

This is the first tube amp i have owned and it is fantastic. The clean channel gives me 50's style cleans with my Strat, and with the same guitar on the gain channel, i can get everything from 80's rock to heavy metal tones. Great value, paired with a MXR112 cabinet, which gives it the top end you need with this for lead stuff.

Marshall listened and removed that harsh top end from the old dsl 15head. The Marshall dsl20 head does a good job. Comes with JJ tubes. Has good bottom end .. Has a stand by switch .. Has an effects loop. The reverb is ok but having the effects loop.. put your delay pedal into the effects loop instead :) Dont know how well the amp will hold up based that it is built over seas ..

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
