For the working professional, the BB700 Series features a versatile active/passive pickup configuration with a 3-band EQ, 6-bolt miter neck joint, alder/maple/alder construction and a diagonally strung convertible bridge. Combining the crisp, penetrating tone and serious flexibility of active pickups with the punch and sustain of a 6-bolt miter neck joint, 700 models can be relied on to deliver an extraordinarily versatile sound that you can adapt to any genre or environment.

Features

• Alder / Maple/ Alder Body Construction
• 6-Bolt Miter Neck Joint
• 5-piece Neck
• New neck shape: thinner neck improves playability and feel for both modern and traditional players.
• YGD Custom V7 Pickups (Alnico V)
• 3-Band Active EQ
• Battery Alert LED
• Vintage Plus Bridge with convertible bridge and saddle
• Lightweight open gear tuners

6-Bolt Miter Neck Joint

Miter bolting holds the neck closer and tighter to the body, fusing these two separate components into one.

Compared to a conventional bolt-on joint, miter bolting offers more efficient transfer of string vibration throughout the body for outstanding sustain and resonance that brings every note to life.

YGD Custom V7 Pickups

Alnico magnets produce a thick, yet penetrating tone that works in combination with the unique body construction to deliver an organic, well-defined sound.

Convertible Bridge and Saddle for Precise Tone Shaping: Vintage Plus Bridge

BB700 models feature Yamaha's Vintage Plus bridge, which allows stringing through the bridge or body. Strings pass through the body at a 45-degree angle, which places less stress on the strings than traditional vertical through-body stringing, while efficiently transferring string vibration to the body. Long-scale strings are recommended when stringing through the bridge and super long-scale strings are recommended when stringing through the body.

Convertible brass saddles offer two angles for precise shaping of tone and feel. The rounder side produces a slightly softer sound, while the more angled side produces a slightly tighter tone.

The brass saddles deliver deeper low-end and the steel bridge plate adds brightness. All screws and springs are stainless steel to guard against corrosion.

Off all my collections of J-Basses,This is the only precision that i own.bought in 2017 and its probably the one i used the most when it came for either recording or playing with Country artists! It has the good tone for that genre in my opinion. The Active/Passive mode along with the EQs are still functionning since day one and been useful when playing outdoor mostly. A nice first good quality bass for a medium price range for someone who is looking to buy one!

This is a beautiful bass. Light weight and very versatile. Great range of tone with the PJ pickups. The Active/Passive switch is a very nice addition. The build quality is what one would expect from Yamaha. I never had any issue with this bass and I love it! Can't recommend it enough.

I received this bass on June 20th 2020 the bass looks fantastic and the sound sounds amazing but set up was a true pain. I had to take it back to get set up twice from a guy that I set up all my bases over the years with no problems but when it was up it was great but then I was practicing last night at band practice and my bass suddenly cut out eject the battery I checked my pedal and plug directly into my amp in case the battery my pedal died still nothing so I turned the actress with the passive and everything started working again then I switched back to active and nothing the whole base was dead so I give it a 3-star rating because it does sound good but there's obviously problems with this model I have $500 active bases that have never cut out on me but then I spent $1,000 on one and less than two weeks later it cuts out and doesn't want to work properly

Off the top, it's a great bass. It has a lot of really cool features which generally are only available on boutique stuff. The neck has a nice profile, kind of a D shape, that indexes your thumb perfectly. Neck is also a satin finish and plays smoooooth. (That's 5 oohs.) What really stood out here and why I'm happy is the great customer service at the PoCo store. I picked it up used. The guitar tech at the PoCo store showed me the bass, and while looking it over with me, agreed it needed a little attention due to a sub optimal setup. (Which I presume was performed by the previous owner.) He quickly whipped it into shape and I was out the door. Sorry Dude, I never caught your name, but great job!! 6 out of 5 for Customer service !!! :)

The features and construction of this bass are cutting edge, boutique type stuff. Very well executed in a solid, nicely balanced package. Finish is a lustrous poly on the body and satin on the neck. Width of the nut is just a hair bigger than a Jazz, and just a hair smaller than a Pre. This neck feels great in hand. Great tone either passive or active. Overall, extremely happy.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
