Back by overwhelming demand... in a mini package! The cult classic Green Russian Big Muff first shook the ground in the mid-1990s. Since then it has been heralded by guitarists and bassists for its devastating low-end and unique sludge and sizzle. The Green Russian Big Muff creates a huge tone that is all its own, but is undeniably Big Muff.

Stop wondering and just go buy this, the Green Russian is a superb overdrive pedal. Of the dozen overdrives I have, this is the one I keep coming back to. Not only my favorite overdrive but one of my favorite pedals period.

Fuzz fuzz fuzz and more fuzz. I've been trying to find a proper fuzz or to my tastes at least for months. I've been doing research and watching videos non stop since Halloween last year. And I've tried every fuzz I can get my hands on. Twice I went to my local L&M and sat down and laid out every single fuzz pedal they have in store to compare them side by side. This time I was finally able to narrow it down to this one the Green Russian. Every Big Muff sounds fantastic in their own way and that’s what made it so hard to decide. And the tone knobs all respond differently or adjust the highs and lows at different points of an EQ at 12 o’clock they still all sounded slightly unique. I liked the Rams head for leads very smooth and fluid with excellent clarity. The Triangle had the highs and the Russian had the gain; that distortion high gain fuzz with the greater low end without sounding boomy. Doesn’t have as much head room as other Big Muffs I tried but that wasn’t important here. One thing I noticed when you roll the tone down to the bass end between 10 and 12 o’clock the volume does increase a little it seems. Either way if you’re looking for fuzz a Big Muff is always where you start because everything else in the fuzz pedal world is compared to the big muffs. I’m sure there are better ones out there but this one is perfect for my needs.

I tried this pedal out on a strat as well as a tele, and the pedal sounded very very muddy. I tried to adjust the tone but I couldn’t find a good smooth fuzz, which was what I wanted.
If you’re looking for some muddy and dull-sounding fuzz (not saying that’s a bad thing), this is your pedal. If you’re looking for a smooth-sounding fuzz, I suggest looking at something else.

It’s not the fuzz for everyone, but it’s the fuzz for me. As other have mentioned, early white stripes/black keys tones among others. Great clarity from a fuzz result in articulate power chords while still providing that great thick fuzz sound. Not that screeching sustain kind of fuzz, but it’s Campbell’s soup, beefy, thick and full of goodness. At this price I don’t think it can be beat.

This green russian big muff will turn the clean channel of your amp into a thick wall of glorious fuzz. The sustain knob has a lot of range throughout the dial, and plenty of volume on tap. I just hope this pedal lasts, EHX doesn't have the best reputation, time will tell.

If you want some earlier White Stripes and Black Keys type tones this is the pedal. Only problem is its a tad bit noisy (hiss) so you'll want to run a noise suppressor... but not past 2 o'clock because then your tone starts to suck, but anything under 12' oclock it doesnt do anything! I'm not a hardcore muff guy but I've owned/traded/played a lot of them. This is the classic one! Growing up I had the big muff pi but it was big and clunky and sounded kind of like it needed a splash of salt, the germanium one was nice, the one wicker ones were meh, all the reissues and clones. A lot of dudes talk about "the vintage green big muff" that you'd used to be able to find in pawn shops in the late 90s... I think this is exactly that same sound... and for the price and footprint? What a steal. Definitely a 10/10 home run out of the park.

Bought this pedal after months of searching for a particular sound online. Got it home and plugged my danelectro hodad bass into it, brilliant. Loving the bottom end and tonal options. Can't beat this pedal on bass for the price. Glad I pulled the trigger and brought this one home..

I've compared this pedal side by side with my original Sovtek Green Russian Muff, and it hits the nail right on the head. The best part is that it does it for much cheaper than all the boutique clones out there.

Watch out clones. There's a new sheriff in town. I use this pedal on bass to fulfilled my stoner/doom tone needs. This pedal does not do subtle.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
