I've had my LL16 for about a year and a half and have performed and jammed with it on countless occasions. Rarely do I play anywhere without someone asking about it and commenting on how amazing it sounds. And boy is it loud. The neck is an absolute dream. I've owned Martin, Taylor, and other guitars, as some of which were double or triple the price of the Yamaha. But the LL16 is by far my favourite of the lot.
My only complaint is that now when I go into L&M to try out some of the high end guitars that used to blow me away the thrill is gone. I've yet to find anything that gives me as much pleasure to play as my Yamaha!

I came into the store looking for either a Gibson j-45 or Hummingbird. The sound & feel of those two didn't grab me. The LL16ARE did. Unbelievable quality of sound, fit and finish for the price.

I purchased an LL16 in November 2023.
I have a D18, a J45, and a Larivee D40. I have owned a Taylor in the past. They are all different so I don't like to say which is best. I will say that when I A-B'd it against a D28 for 20 minutes at L&M, there was very little difference that I could detect. The LL16 is in the same class as all of these for about a third of the price. Also, it is the loudest acoustic guitar I've ever owned or played.
Also, it is, without a doubt, the best value there is in $1000-2000 range.
My two reservations - although I have gigged with it with no issues, I'm not sure whether the pickup is the greatest. I may get a K&K mini or a Schatten.
Secondly, I'll probably replace the factory nut and saddle with bone or a Graphtech .
I have already replaced the tuners with open backed Grovers, but that's more a matter of personal preference.
The takeaway - if you are looking for an acoustic steel string in the $1000 - 3000 range, you must check one of these out.

Much over used, but this deserves to be called a giant killer as the other review here says. Build quality is about as good as a stock guitar gets, and feel is big and comfy. My jaw dropped when I strummed an open E chord. I was willing to droo 4500 on a D-28 but this one just had more...gravitas I guess you might call it.

The features and wood for this price is amazing, as is the quality of the build. All I had to do was tighten the truss rod and this thing was singing like an angel.
There's a full review of the similar LL16D on yt where they even go as far as knocking it off a guitar stand (both ways), and it does just fine. Then they cut it in half and examine the build quality. This is a well made guitar with nothing hidden inside.
Took it over to my buddy's place to compare to his much more expensive Larrivee. Besides being nicer to play with a more comfortable neck, we both prefer the sound of the Yamaha. It has a pleasing chime in the highs and less mids - very similar to a Morgan I once owned.

I have owned Martins, Taylors, Gibsons, you name it. D28, D18, D35, HD28, Taylor 314, J45, still own the last one. This guitar, by far, is as good as any I have played. The action is perfect out of the box, not just the setup, but the string spacing, neck shape and fretboard width are perfectly synched to make you keep playing. The rosewood overtones are scary good and the sustain is super long. The bass is not boomy, but balanced. The B and high E string really stand out when you need to solo on them and they are easy to articulate. Honestly, this is an absurd value for the money. I am shocked it took me 12 years of guitar shopping to stumble into it.

This guitar sounds great acoustically. Its acoustic sound compares easily to any other acoustic I've played. The action is good, the neck is comfortable and the quality is noticeably excellent. However, if you want to use this plugged in, it's passive pickup is super quiet and without depth. You have to preamp it and use some EQ. Other than that, it's a GREAT acoustic guitar, just not a great acoustic/electric (if that makes sense).

Looked for awhile for a bigger body style guitar since I mostly play parlour size , my heart was set on a Taylor but I saw this beauty and having never owned a Yamaha I figured I’d at least consider one, the sound , beautiful, full and rich, the neck , smooth and comfortable, the aesthetics, warm and inviting yiu to pick it up and play , from the binding to the ebony board and gold tuners this guitar is as classy as it it bold.
I can see why so many people own st least one Yamaha acoustic.

Started off on guitar with the LL16 many years ago. Back then the odour from the rosewood filled the store on unboxing. But eventually sold it in search of other guitars. Now 12 years later I'm back with a new one after playing various other makes of acoustic guitars. I consider the LL series to be the best value for the money for an acoustic. Yes, the sound system is basic, but plugged into any reasonable acoustic amp and you can get fantastic results. I did change out the plastic pins for Tusq, and that alone made a huge difference to the harmonics and quality of sound. Later added a Tusq saddle, and nut, and frankly would put this guitar up against anything costing twice as much. Heck even Yamaha's LL26 for that matter. The LL will produce plenty of projection and harmonics even with a delicate touch with finger style. Dig in with a flat pick and the structure of the guitar will take anything you care play. Comes with a really well make heavy duty gig back, and when you open it, are greeted with the incredible smell of rosewood.

I bought this guitar after it was recommended to me by one of the guys at my store. As soon as I picked it up and started strumming chords, I knew it was special. It felt amazing, and sounded the same. It projects clearly, and has a lot of body to the tone. The electronics sound great, and this would be an ideal gigging guitar for anyone from the open-mic'er, to a professional on the big stage. Also, I should note that this guitar went into three albums I've done and it records incredibly well. Dynamic range is very wide, and you can do pretty much any style with it. It is large being a dreadnought so it can definitely be harder to play sometimes, but if you can handle that, the Yamaha LL16 is worth more than the price you pay. Only thing I would change if I had the choice would be to have a strap button installed from factory setup instead of having to get it done after purchase. Not a huge problem, just get your luthier to install one for you and you're set for the gig.

I bought the LL 16 four months ago and I can’t put it down. I own a fender and another Yamaha acoustic guitar but this one is by far the best guitar I have played. The sound is awesome and the neck is very easy to get around. Very comfortable…. I love it and it definitely competes with the Taylor and Martin models that are $1,000 more. Great guitar!

The Yamaha LL16 sung like an angel the first time I picked it up.
After that, I didn't even consider my other options. I wanted this guitar.
The craftsmanship is flawless, tone rich and thick, and I love the unobtrusive pickup.
When I purchased it, I got my local L&M to install a strap holder on the neck side.
I've recorded two professional albums with it so far, and I can't get enough of the sound.
For any beginning guitar player, this is ideal. But the quality is also great for musicians who gig on a regular basis.

I recently purchased an FGX3 and it sounded so good, wanted to explore other Yamaha high end guitars. Purchased the LL16 ARE used for $800 on Kijiji from a fellow near Toronto who only had it for a couple of months and was upgrading to a Martin. I got it home, set it up with Elixir Phosphur bronze lights, tweaked the truss and saddle a bit to my action liking and wowzers what a sound. The passive pickup is very good (reminds me of a K and K mini), intonation is bang on, playability and volume all over the neck is consistent and rich. Tuners are super smooth and precise and overall the guitar is stunning to look at. One cannot go wrong with one of these for the price point.....seriously ! Has a brighter louder sound than the FG3 and I would rate the FG3 as a better guitar (which would explain the price difference) however I sincerely enjoy the playing experience of the LL16. Play one if you can find one in stock anywhere and I am confident you will leave with it. Yamaha is knocking it out of the park on many levels. Also their Chinese factory is owned by Yamaha..,no other guitars are made there and quality control is top notch on instruments leaving it. LLs and FG3s are also hand assembled within that factory with expert luthiers so explains the fine tuning and top notch QA. As for the soft case with the LL16, L&M always trade that on a hard case for minimal dollars....I have been using L&M for ten years now and always top notch. As well they finance based on you, not a bank or credit crap so if you pay your bill consistently, you can get great instruments on payment plans that are affordable. Especially good for working musicians....who usually always make sure their kit payments are paid.

Owned this guitar for 6 months now. Beautiful materials/ Superb build-quality, and ....fantastic sound. My 'go to' guitar for most everything.
Comes with a really nice padded case ( which is lightweight - I like that)
I would have given it a 5/5 for features, except mine came with 'plastic' pins in the bridge, and also plastic nut and plastic saddle ??? The quality of woods and quality of construction is otherwise 'amazing'. Better sound and better materials than some other guitars in the 3K -4K range.

For just $1100, this is an amazing guitar ! ARE treated Engelmann top is gorgeous and really rings out. I would go 'head to head' with this guitar against a lot of Martin's or Gibsons priced at three time the price of this one. The quality of wood in this guitar is phenomenal.....beautiful solid Indian Rosewood back and sides / Engelmann spruce top has beautiful 'hazel' patterns running across it's width / 5-ply neck with Padauk strips for extra strength / closed, gold plated tuners from Yamaha, which work well / Abalone rosette and Abalone fret markers / SRT sound pick-up system works great / *** I would have given this guitar a 5/5 but for the fact that (for some weird reason) Yamaha installed a ( on mine at least ) plastic nut and a plastic bridge ??? and also, it comes with a lovely padded case ....but I would have much rather had an actual 'hard shell' case.

Once I started exploring 12-string, solid spruce/rosewood options the field narrowed pretty fast. There aren't a lot of 12-string production guitars with these specs at any price -- much less, with an (aged) Engelmann spruce top and ebony fingerboard, maple (body and neck) binding and just a tasteful touch of abalone. I have other guitars so this wasn't intended to be my main player, rather another sonic option in the toolkit. Once I picked up this one, I knew it was special -- the neck was chunky and comfortable and the first strum resonated for what seemed like 5 minutes! Clear and articulate. But what surprised me most was the price/value. Now in my late 50's, I only came back to guitar within the last 7 years and wanted to build a small collection of upper-mid range instruments with individual voices from the best builders, Taylor (414ce), Martin (000-15sm), Fender (US Telecaster), Godin/LaPatrie (Concert), etc. And while I knew Yamaha was a quality product at a good price, I hadn't really considered one before coming across this beauty -- nor had it crossed my mind to own an asian-built fiddle. So, what I've learned is that there really are still great deals out there and once I parked my NA-made biases and just evaluated materials, build quality, playability, and sound -- I realized that the LL16-12 is as good as a sub-$3000 production guitar as any on the market. And I was lucky enough to find a lightly-played used one at that -- so I'm more than satisfied with this baby and you will be too.

I've had the guitar for a year and a half and I'm still blown away with it. Was mostly an electric player until I got this acoustic. It looks and sounds incredible and plays even nicer. The neck/frets are extremely comfortable to move around on, while the strings are nicely spaced towards the bridge for finger picking. Overall build quality is excellent, and the rosewood back and sides look fantastic. Hands down this is the best acoustic for under 1000$, and I actually chose it over a Gibson at double the cost. Highly recommend this one!

I was not looking for an acoustic guitar but tried this model in-store and after about 30 minutes of playing she was coming home w me. The sound was great and Yamaha didn't skimp on the appointments - binding all around, abalone inlays, rosewood, spruce top, factory pickup, etc. The only drawback is I would have preferred a hardshell case but overall, top marks across the board.

My wife purchased the left handed version of this guitar last year and she loves it. I was looking for another high end guitar so I went to L&M and tried all the different ones, including the Gibson Dove and Gibson Songwriter models. This Yamaha beauty actually sounds better to me than either of the two Gibsons I tried, and has a much better price tag. I was concerned about the fact that is is made in China, but am concerned no more. The build quality, sound and feel are all outstanding! Plugged in, the pickup sounds clean and true to the acoustic vibe of this amazing guitar. In short, it is well worth the money.

I sat in L&M for about 6 hours one day trying out new acoustics. A&B different models. i tried all the high end ones. Over the years my martin neck had shifted and never felt the same. i needed a new high end beauty. My wife suggested i try out this yamaha. i picked it up and was immediately blown away by the first chord i strummed. Theres nothing on this guitar that is a gimmick. the ARE treatment is real and produces the loudest most resonant acoustic i ever played. I fully enjoy playing acoustic again. The build quality is simply amazing. i shied away from this guitar because of the fact its made in china. Dont let that fool you like it did me. This is a better build than a gibson dove which has 6 times the price tag. I strongly recommend trying one of these out. I cant say enough good. its a true joy to play with the best sound ive found out of many acoustics ive had.

Yamaha has done a great job on the LL16 from China. The build quality is spot on! This is not a contract product. It is from Yamaha plant operating under Yamaha quality control. The all solid wood combination of ebony bridge and fingerboard, rosewood body, mahogany neck, spruce top is a classic. The abalone markers and rosette are tight. Cream neck/headstock binding are classy, not to mention the maple body binding. Chunky bridge aids sustain. 12 side braces add to body strength and distribute vibrations. Tortoise pick-guard is cool. And, an under saddle passive pickup. No silly batteries to play around with. Comes with a soft shell case with foam panel reinforcement. Don't think "bag", think "case". This dread is a riot to play. Big bottom but also handles the highs just fine. Good signal coverage of all 6 strings. Comfortable neck profile for solid chords and quick leads. There is a big field of choice out there now. I tried many dreads, including US made. The build and value, for me, is right here, Yammie LL16 A.R.E.. Solid Cool!

I was in the market for a solid wood guitar and had been looking at Martins in the $2000 price range. The second I played this guitar I knew it was right for me. The sound just booms out of this thing and it also sounds great plugged in using just the passive pickup. I am extremely happy with this purchase!
