I have been using Behringer 8500 mics (I now have four of them) for music dates and home recording for about five years now. They are essentially interchangeable with SM-58s. The difference is subtle, with the XM8500 being slightly brighter and having a slightly higher output than the SM-58. I think the SM58 is a bit better for handling noise rejection, but not by much. All four of my Behringer mics have held up well over the years despite some knocks and drops and rough handling. Don't be put off by the low price of the XM8500 - sometimes you you actually do get more than you pay for.

this is a hidden gem! I typically look at behringer as a hit and miss brand. So when I heard about this mic. I had to try one at 29 bucks plus tax it was a low risk especially with a good return policy. I have been playing and recording music for 30 years. I own quite a few different mics from Peavy, Shure, AKG ETC. I put this one up against my SM57, granted they were two different styles, but the audio Quality was about the same. The XM8500 was brighter. it comes down to preference rather then quality of sound. The feedback rejection was as good as any mic. The over all construction was not as refined inside as a shure mic. but the build was still pretty solid. As for value the mic was far above any mic in its price range. and it competes with mics in the $100 plus range. I bought for open mics that I ran as a throw away mic. But now i find myself using at a main mic for my shows. very impressive mic for the price especially one that comes with a nice solid travel case. You really cannot go wrong with this mic.
