The traditional bass style of the 4003S - with dot inlays and no binding - was prized by Paul McCartney and Chris Squire when they got their first 4001S models in 1964. Players cherish its traditional look and rounded edges that many claim make it more comfortable than the 4003. The updated 4003S version comes with the improved dual trussrod system. Of course, the famous solid bass tones, ringing sustain and treble punch make it a dream. Iconic curves of maple form the body with a traditional Rosewood fingerboard. Dot inlays and no binding make this stand out from the standard 4003.

Picked this up thanks to Tyler H. at Royal Vista doing me a solid and getting a transfer from another shop, as I really wanted to love it, but hated the thought of buying it blind. As it turned out, I played it for an hour, and didn’t want to put it down, right away. The neck is gorgeous, thin D, and a touch shorter than 34”. As a small person with small hands, I worried it would be too big. No way. It’s an instrument I pick up every single day. Right out of the box, it was perfect - set up, intonation; I’ve had both Gibson and Fender Custom Shop guitars that were turned over right away to set up. Not the Rickenbacker! The finish and details are easily worth double the price I paid. Nothing out there comes close at this price point. I will never let this go. I ordered a Rush strap, and a Richter Motörhead leather strap, for it. My Beatles strap matches nicely, too… The bass comes with Schaller buttons, but not the locking part for the strap, so you will have to buy a whole set of Schallers, if you want the ease of the locking parts. Not the end of the world, and with the spare buttons, I can put them on other guitars.

L'ajustement était bon «out of the box».

With everything going up lately, Rickenbacker instruments actually look like a bargain. For less than $2,500 you are getting a high quality, handmade American instrument that is just as iconic as a Fender Strat, a Fender Telecaster or a Gibson Les Paul. Unlike other companies, Rickenbacker doesn’t have different lines of product- there is just one. You are getting an instrument that is made to the same specs that players like : Paul McCartney, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee and Lemmy used.

Best bass I've ever owned. Bought this in July 2021 and haven't stopped playing it since. The quality, sound, and feel are just unbeatable. I'm also a big fan of Paul McCartney and the Beatles and this bass does not fail for those specials songs.

Got it for my birthday and I honestly love the sound and feel of this bass. I have an American Fender Jazz Bass, which I also really like, but the Rickenbacker 4003 has that sound and look that just makes me want to pick it up every time i see it. As for the quality, you just can't get it wrong when it's made in the USA.

I bought this in May 2021 as an upgrade from my Ibanez and couldn’t be happier. It plays very well with a pick and fingers but is not easy for slapping. The Ric sound is awesome thru an Ampeg amp. The selector and tone controls offer a good range from a growling low end to a cut-thru-the-mix high end. The out of the box setup was great, basically just tune up and play.

I had such high hopes for this beautiful bass guitar. Unfortunately, once I got it home & played it for awhile, I found it to be the most uncomfortable bass I've ever owned, & I've had 4 different basses so far, all comfortable. First I had the cover removed from the bridge as there was nowhere to rest my thumb. However. it seems that the body of the guitar, especially below the bottom bridge is so short, that where i rest my arm in order to rest my thumb on the edge of the bridge, is awkward, it actually hurts my arm. I've tried resting my arm differently, but the only way it doesn't hurt is to suspend my arm above the guitar and not rest it at all, except for the thumb on the bridge. That would become so tiring after playing awhile. I'm a thin woman with long arms; I wonder how men find this comfortable with their size. In any event, I'll be returning it and taking the financial hit for restocking, restringing with flat wounds and removing the bridge cover. I just can't get comfortable on this beautiful bass. Heartbreaking.

Easily the best bass I've ever played, or owned. The tones that this beast produces are outstanding, and the vintage push / pull knob adds a LOT of diversity to the bass tones, giving you a modern sounding instrument, or the classic Ric treble tone. The finish on this beauty was flawless, the the looks of this bass are elegant. The lack of binding gives this bass a fresh feel, and a (in my opinion) a nice modern look.

I bought it used at L&M and it is a beauty. Really nice sound. A welcome addition to my arsenal, and it completes my collection of the 3 basses Macca himself used during the Beatles era (Hofner, RIckenbacker and Fender Jazz)

Hands down the best bass I've ever played! love the finished fretboard and contoured body. Surprising tonal versatility with 2 volumes, 2 tones and the built in mute. Only bass I've ever owned that refuses to go out of tune! Plays like a dream after a set up was performed by the awesome Tech at the Waterloo store. Easy on the eyes too! No doubt an investment, but take care of this thing and you'll have it for the rest of your life! Thanks to Jeff at the Waterloo store for letting me give it a thorough demo, he answered all my questions and was very friendly and professional!

Had a 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 25+ years ago. Sold it regretted it alot. I had been looking around for a new Bass the prestigious bass I had wasn't cutting it for me so I thought I'd go for the Rickenbacker 4003s. Simple Straight forward and Classic. When I recieved my Bass I noticed the Case was a Step up from other Bass Cases I have had in the Past. The Bass itself was what I remembered the Neck was Sleek the Body Curvaceous and Small . The Maple construction is Solid you could feel the Bass Sustain without being plugged in. The Finish was Great. The setup was good outta the Case needed a bit of a tweak but it was very simple to achieve my preferred Action. I'm very pleased with my Investment. I highly recommend this Instrument it's Beautiful and very unique.

Once you hit this level of an American made bass, everybody makes a 'world's best' bass. A lot of people have resisted Rics as being expensive. Fender, and Musicman have had significant prices raises, and now 2k+ is what you expect for a pro bass. Like MM, and Fender, this bass is as iconic as they come. I'm guessing most buyers have wanted one all their lives. They play exactly as expected, and sound like a Ric. If it's YOUR sound, then it is the best bass in the world. They simply are 'all that', and will continue turning heads for another 50 years. I own, or have owned Fender, Spector, Alembic, Musicman, G&L, Warwick, and other world-class basses. A Rickenbacker 4003 is as good as any of them, and does it's thing very well indeed.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.

Great Additions
