What a great little box with the only shortcoming is the 4". Headphones or jacking into an amp/stereo can negate this. As a beginner, this amp may not lend to your styles you wish to chase without another mentioned sound boost. As a somewhat experienced player, you will love it as a pre-amp option that noodles in low-low volumes. Pretty much, when you know how your guitar should react & sound, the mini here will be a great travel/small room/campfire companion (Yes, electric campfires!)

Picked up a used one last week, couldn't be happier ! The best $100 I've spent for a while. Was reluctant to take it seriously, but once I heard it, almost amazed. This is not a toy like some other battery powered/mini amps. Loud enough for kitchen or living room, decent sound. Once you dial in your sound, it's quite inspiring, and fun. For busking, I use the headphones out, and go into RCA in on a TVM-10. Can control sound with amp . Played with a live drummer outside, and full out could keep up with volume. Some folks complain about lack of features. This is meant to be a practice amp, and I would rather sacrifice features, for better quality of tone. Grab the amp, your guitar, cable, and boogie. Are there things that I would change, maybe a couple, but no biggie, easy to work around. I like the delay effect, and can always use pedals. For the price, if it meets your requirements, don't hesitate. Build quality seems decent for price point, pretty solid.

good little amp , at high volumes they all have a " buzz" noise - its a grounding issue .....attach a wire to the back ( shiny ) screw and put the other end in the ground ( lower hole of the 3 ) where the adapter plugs in ......it works -no more buzz

All I could say was wow. Bought one used, and truly didn’t expect it to sound so full. Obviously this isn’t a 15w tube amp but the quality really impressed for the size. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a mini amp for the bedroom or for travel.

I bought this mini amp for use when traveling. I was quite surprised when I got home and tried it. It sounded much better than I expected. I usually play mostly in overdrive settings, and the "Brown" on this litte amp sounded better than my Marshall. The amp also comes with a delay feature, which is pretty much the only effect I use (I like to have a slight echo behind notes). I've been using it almost exclusively to practice now. It is definitely loud enough for an apartment, but also can be dialed down for quiet use in a hotel room. Also, the size and weight are excellent to take on the road.
The only draw back I found is that it does not seem to have as deep a low end tone as a Marshall would. It would also be nice to have had the power supply included.
My conclusion is that I love this little amp, and would recommend it to anyone who lives in an apartment, has roommates or travels. After having bought this amp, I'm looking into their 100 watt Katana.

It runs on batteries, and it’s really annoying. Plus it can be used with an ac adapter but it doesn't even come with it, so when the batteries die you’ll go on a wild goose chase looking for it. It can’t go very loud either, and makes a weird static sound when it’s too loud. And the distortion sounds terrible, it also has delay that also does not sound good and is overall weak because it has very light feedback that you can’t adjust. I wouldn’t recommend this amp to anybody tbh.

I bought my used Katana-Mini amp about a month and a half ago in L&M Pembina, Winnipeg. Before buying it, I did a lot of research, I've read a lot of great reviews and most of them are point on. It's a great practice amp. It's my first amp, my primary considerations in buying it are because of its size, portability and most importantly you can use AA size batteries to power it. The sound quality is good, I bought an optional AC/DC adaptor PSB series, the sales rep at L&M specifically recommended PSB-1U, however, they don't have that in stock I just ordered from amazon, so far it's working great. I would buy it again. I gave 4.5 stars because I think they should always be room for improvement.

The VoX pathfinder is cheaper and more useful. If portability is an issue get an acoustic.

I was looking for a good portable Amp, one that uses batteries and I tried a few different portables Amps. When I seen the BOSS KATANA MINI AMP, I did some research and finally bought it. I've been using a SQUIER 10 Watt Amp for a few Years now but wanted something better and portable, something I could carry or take along with me and use AA batteries. No more 9 Volt Batteries. I love it, it sounds great too and you can't go wrong with this. I live in a Bachelor so I really can't use my 100 Watt Peavey Amp. I'm not to fussy on the Delay though, would've been nice to add a Chorus or Flanger instead. Great little Battery powered Mini Amp for the price. If you're looking for a good practice amp with extra, get the BOSS KATANA MINI AMP.

I needed an amp that would take up as little space as possible yet still give me a usable practice platform. The Katana Mini has exceeded my expectations, and when you consider it's price it is a crazy good value. Bought the optional power supply, because the brown channel eats batteries (play an E chord and watch the power led dim and sound decrease after only a couple hours of use YMMV). But given that it can run on batteries and is smaller than a lunchbox you have no excuse to not play your guitar if you own one of these. Kids are sleeping? It's quiet but has a cab sim headphone out too. More than loud enough to fill a bedroom or small office with sound. The clean channel takes pedals well enough if you want to. My practice space is a shared room but I have a Pedaltrain nano with four pedals on it, the Katana Mini and my guitar on a stand - and it still takes up less space than that pile of laundry your lazy roommate leaves in the hallway. Just buy one! Actually buy two and build a tiny stereo rig.

Bough this used at L & M Waterloo. It's all I use now for practice. My Blackstar HT-5 hasn't been turned on in forever. Absolutely love it for what it is. And it's great on batteries as well. If you find one on sale - buy it.

I was looking for a small amp, lightweight to take it everywhere. Compared to other battery powered amps ( I got already 3 ) it sounds really great. It's loud enough for practicing ... almost too loud for the bedroom ;-) It's small enough to fit in the hand baggage, almost no additional weight. Right now it is in Germany, and I use it more than my other amps because it's so easy to handle and sounds so good, no matter on which level.

Really great tone - very easy to find sweet settings. Not hard to get most of the classic rock tones you might be aiming for.. More than powerful enough for jamming in the living room etc. Built in delay sounds great and you can even get reverb by dialing the delay time down and mix up. I have a decent tube amp setup but that sounds great at high volumes whereas this sounds great even quiet..meaning this gets more play time at home (the kids are always sleeping...). Crunch channel responds a lot like a tube amp and cleans up nicely w/rolling back guitar volume. Batteries last a long time. Easily one of my best music purchases in the last 20 years. Highly recommended.

I picked this amp up for something that was portable and reasonably quiet. This little lunchbox fits the bill. It's super light, runs on batteries (or an adapter that's not included) and provides pretty reasonable tone. It doesn't sound like a high end amp, but do you really expect it to? It's dirt cheap! It's tones are definitely usable, and it has more bass than I thought it would. The delay is ok, but I don't know why they didn't put reverb instead. I really like the clean channel; it can get some really decent vintage sounds with my Gibson 333 (490R/498T). With my Strat (fat 50s) I usually have to use the crunch channel to get the sound I want. The brown channel has some fairly useful metal distortion, but I don't play that style. One thing that I don't like is that as you change to the higher gain channels the sound seems to get more constricted. This amp could be just a LITTLE louder; fully cranked you can still talk over it. I sometimes find myself wanting just a little more juice to open up things a bit more. Overall pretty happy, considering what I paid for it

I picked up the Katana Mini for use in my office, as such I was not looking for anything too powerful (or large) but was hoping to still obtain satisfactory tones at lower volumes. This little amp performs great in this setting, I do not use any external effects with this critter which keeps the footprint extremely small. I have mainly been using the clean & crunch gain settings, usually with the delay time at zero but with the level all the way up - surprisingly versatile for a unit this small. For my purposes this amp has been spot on, I use the Roland power supply so cannot speak to how long it would last under normal playing conditions via batteries.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
