The USB Dual Pre is a full-featured high quality dual portable preamplifier and computer interface packed into a compact rugged case.

It is designed to work over a wide variety of applications from remote field recording to desktop/studio tracking. Each of the two low noise input channels has up to 48 dB of clean gain with signal present and clip LED indicators. Inputs can be either XLR balanced or 1/4-inch TRS. Each of the 1/4-inch TRS outputs is buffered low impedance balanced.

The USB Dual Pre is powered via the USB bus. An internal 9 Volt battery, or optional external 12V power supply (or any combination of USB, battery & power supply) can be used depending on application. When running powered by battery alone, you should expect in excess of 50 hours of operation with phantom power off. Battery life will drop to approximately 20 hours (depending on microphone) when phantom powering is engaged (still enough time to get through an average session).

The built-in low noise +48 Volt phantom power supply allows you to power up to 2 microphones as well as the preamplifier when running from any power sources including the USB bus. For monitoring, an 1/8-inch TRS mini headphone jack with level and monitor mix controls on the rear allow for latency free local monitoring of the inputs while recording as well as playback monitoring of the USB bus. The monitor mix is also routed to the 1/4-inch TRS balanced outputs. This lets you use the 1/4-inch outputs as either preamplifier outputs or as the monitor feed to your powered monitors.

The USB interface is fully compliant with the USB 1.1 specification and uses USB adaptive mode for playback and USB asynchronous mode for record. It will work with the USB audio device drivers built into Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Vista and Apple OS9.1/OSX computers with native USB support. No special drivers are needed.

A decent and very portable interface. Connected automatically to my computer without any trouble or need to install drivers. The preamps are on the quiet end – not strong enough to run the notoriously quiet SM7b live. (I only got results I was happy with boosting it after the fact by also using noise reduction in Audacity.) I find it even a little low, if workable, for an SM57. Other dynamic mics and definitely condensers I own were good. One very annoying feature is that each channel is assigned to a particular side of the headphones when monitoring. This means that if you plug in and use only 1 mic, the sound will only come out into 1 ear. (The only imperfect way I've found to get around this is to plug a patch cable from the output of the 1st channel to the input of the 2nd channel. Not recommended, I'm sure! Turn the gain all the way down in this 2nd channel to minimize hum.) I picked one up for 50% off ($50), I believe it was a return. For this price, I think it's good value. Paying a regular price of $100 for it, when the M-Audio AIR 192|6 is on sale for $30 more is madness. (The Air has way louder and cleaner preamps, good visual monitoring, more convenient controls, 24-bit recording, etc.)

Unfortunately the right channel stopped working altogether after about four months. Kind of feel like this is money wasted just to get a USB pre-amp.

I have 4 of these on 2 computers for my podcast and streaming rig. Plus about a dozen other things on the USB never had any issues. Pretty basic but does what it’s designed to do well.

I was able to run my condenser and dynamic mics into it and plug it into my Canon hv30. Excellent clean and quiet sound. Because the phantom power will work off the battery, it's a great pro field preamp.

I bought the TubeMP Project Series with USB at first, which is a nice product. But when I monitored through the computer headphone output, the latency was annoying—— nobody can play with a delay.......Then with the help of L&M's kind staff,I switched it to this one. It's very small but really exquisite and affordable. Most important thing for me is free of latency, you can plug the headphone directly into it.Only thing I'm not satisified with maybe the noise;but this is the only interface I've used,I dont know how others are.Oh,by the way,I use it as a Mic preamp ,also as a DI box.

Before I bought it I was a little concerned that it did not have enough gain, only +48 db and digital rather than tube, might sound too harsh or edgy but I really needed the flexibility of a USB DI and phantom power and fully mobile (9v battery powered). After running some test into the computer and into my digital recorder I am please to say that there is plenty of gain and it does not sound harsh or overly digital. It is not in studio use and it is not having to deal with a huge dynamic range as it has only seen 2 real recording sessions with voice only. Only place I can mark the unit down is one small nit. The thumb screw that holds the battery door on was so stiff the first time I had to use a pliers to undo it. The cause was an overly tight hole on the battery door. it took only a few seconds of effort and a quick ream out with a Phillips screw driver and all was good. Overall, it has preformed very well and the option of 9v power for fully mobile recording on phantom power is pretty awesome.

This little rig is perfect for our internet radio station! If your new to recording, pod casting, or internet radio then this is definitely a good choice for your first interface/small mixer.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
