The 400 lineup continues the BB tradition of great build quality and signature sound that won the series acclaim throughout its forty-year history. Whether you prefer a rosewood fingerboard or the distinctively bright, crisp sound of maple, the precision feel and response of the six bolt miter neck along with the presence and clarity of custom-wound pickups will inspire you to play your best when it really counts.

FEATURES

  • Solid Alder Body

  • 6-Bolt Miter Neck Joint

  • 5-piece Neck

  • YGD Custom V5 Pickups (AlnicoV)

  • Vintage Plus Light Bridge : Convertible Bridge and Saddle

  • Lightweight Open Gear Tuners

6-bolt Miter Neck Joint
Miter bolting holds the neck closer and tighter to the body fusing these two separate components into one. Compared to a conventional bolt-on joint, miter bolting offers more efficient transfer of string vibration throughout the body, for improved sustain and outstanding resonance that brings every note to life.

YGD Custom V5 Pickups
Alnico magnet pickups tuned to deliver the classic BB vintage tone, slightly updated to provide a brighter sound that cuts through in live performance situations.

Control
The new BB models are equipped with one tone control and two volume control knobs, for versatile sound shaping.

Convertible Bridge for Precise Tone Shaping: Vintage Plus Light Bridge
The 400 models are equipped with a Vintage Plus Light bridge that incorporates Diagonal Body Thru Stringing, in which the strings are angled at the saddle and pass through the instrument to the bridge at a 45 degree angle, as opposed to the traditional vertical stringing method which places more stress on the strings. Diagonal Body Thru Stringing significantly reduces this stress while transferring string vibration to the body reliably and efficiently. The strings can also be attached to the tail end of the bridge. In 5-string models the bridge is equipped with an offset low B string.

Five-piece Neck
The new series features a 5-ply maple and mahogany laminated neck, in a bolt-on design that delivers a sharp attack, and quick response. This durable construction resists warping and twisting and adds the tight, penetrating character of maple combined with the warmth of mahogany to the instruments tone.

New Neck Shape
The New BB models feature a slightly thinner neck than previous BB basses, improving playability and feel for both modern and traditional players.

Lightweight Tuners
Lighter weight tuners offer a better balance and complement the overall feel, providing a perfect match for the smaller, lighter body of the new BB.

My first bass was a Yamaha BB234. I played it on and off for a couple of years before selling it. My main is instrument is guitar but during the pandemic I finally ventured out into bass. The BB234 was great lol I ended up really regretting that I sold it... I tried basses from other companies, and even though they were good, there was just something missing from them. I ended up getting a BB434 and I love it. Looks beautiful, fun to play, and L&M Toontown set it up for me perfectly. It looks and feels like a $1000 - $1200 bass easily... it has a nice weight, the headstock looks great, the fretboard just shines. I love it. I will never sell my Yamaha BB ever again.

5 stars all around, there are nicer basses on the market for sure but for this price I don't think anything else out there can touch these. I put some flatwound strings on mine and I've been loving the tones I can get out of this thing

I picked up one of these used at my local store and it plays like a dream. Really solid build for the price range, I'd say it easily competes with the likes of Fender's Player series basses and for a fraction of the price. It's my number one ever since, I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an extremely versatile workhorse.

Picked this up a good 8 months ago and still can’t believe how great this bass is for the price. After only a small setup out of the box this bass has been nothing but butter. Super fast and comfortable neck, excellent variety of tones from the PJ pups and always stays in tune. A slight hum on the j pup but I’d say that’s pretty normal for a single coil. All in all an amazing bass at this price. Only mod I have made was a bridge replacement as I found the oem to be a bit too light for my personal taste but that’s just me. It wasn’t an issue just a personal preference. All in all an amazing bass from Yamaha that is great for live playing as well as recording. Don’t hesitate if you’re in the market.

I really want to love this bass, but 4 trips to the store for setups and fixes later I've lost the motivation.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
