- asked on Jan 12, 2024
Answer: The SC-HDC has a wider clamp, for larger instruments.
Other than this, they are the same.

Finally had enough of the Fender and Boss clip-on tuners and spent the money.
Never going back. It does exactly what I want without any input. Turn it on, it works exactly like this guitarist wants.
Screw up the settings, turn it off, turn it on, poof, works perfectly again.
Display fades with the battery. It hangs in there until the battery is dead.
Will use it until it dies and then buy another.

I've had my tuner for a year now and I love it. I use it with my acoustic, classical, basses, mandolin, and Seagull Merlin. No fighting, just pluck and adjust the pegs. Responds well to even the slightest adjustment.

I bought this because I wanted the strobe accuracy, which it definitely has, but I didn’t care to pay more for the Sweetened Tunings which I have no desire to use and perhaps never will. Other than that, it’s the only tuner I plan to use from now on because it picks up the low B on my 5-string bass fairly consistently, better than other clip-on tuners, and I don’t have to fuss with plugging a tuner into my line.
However, I wish it came with the case that Peterson makes specifically for this tuner. Why not for this price? When folded to its smallest size, the screen is exposed and not protected. This case hard to find separately and shipping is way too expensive for those I’ve found online. So I’m on the hunt for a third-party case like a compact camera case. I won’t remove the temporary plastic screen cover until then because I’m concerned about scratches as it shares room with other things in the compartment of my bass guitar case. It’s also in the supplied plastic bag in the meantime.

I got tired of using the cheaper Snark , Fender, and other clip on tuners. Use 2 tuners , and get different results. I always notice when a string is out and not sounding as it should. Figure I’d try one of there strobe tuners. Very happy I did ! First day I had it I went over all my guitars and set up tuning and intonation. Much better ! Give one a try. You’ll be glad you did.

After not being completely satisfying fighting with getting the tuning just right on my classical, acoustic, and bass guitars I read up on the various options out there I came across this strobe tuner. It's super easy to use and tracks very quickly. The sweetners are pretty darn cool, too. This may not seem like a good value but for the accuracy and quality it is well worth it.

My Snark never reliably got my guitars properly in tune to my ears. I wondered, is it me? I always had to fiddle and retune after tuning with the Snark. It was an irritant.
Then, I got this Peterson tuner. Wish I'd got one years ago. If you are wondering if it is worth it. Yes, it is.
When I tune with this tuner, my guitars ring true and no weird dissonant chords etc... Gets it right first time. So much faster.
Bonus is that it is accurate enough to set up the intonation on my telecaster, too.
PS. I never give things 5/5. which is why it is 4/5. Nothing is truly perfect, but this gear purchase is one of the best I've made in a while.

Of course, if you're going to spend 5 to 10 times more for a clip-on tuner, it should work better. Well it does.
I always liked using stobe tuners (I have an old Peterson that I used for bass for many years). This unit tracks very fast and so far, it picks up the string vibration instantly. The various modes are easy to select, though I am only using guitar and bass modes. I have read that the battery life is 20 hours of active use, which will be a big Plus, as it seems I'm always changing the battery in my cheapie. I haven't playing in the sun yet, but another reviewer stated that it is much more visible in sunlight. I can also see that as a big benefit.

Got fed up with the basic clip on tuners especially for the mandolin and 12 string guitar. Getting older and more difficult to tune the second mandolin string by ear due to ringing in my ears. This new tuner is a very well made and incredibly accurate tuner and it showed it's worth right away with the mandolin. Having both strings dead on gave me a brighter sound and I could hear the difference compared to my previous tuner. The 12 string was another joy and gave it a different sound as well. I also play mostly in 432 HZ tuning and it is nice to have this set as the default when I bring up the mandolin tuner setting for example. My acoustic, the mandolin, the 12 string, and electric all have their various settings saved. The electric is in 440 HZ to play along with backing tracks. For the acoustic there is also a saved setting for when I use a capo for some of the songs. It adjusts for the pressure of the capo on the string.
I figure this tuner will last a lifetime, and with that - really not expensive when you think about it. Replace a cheap tuner a couple of times and you are almost there.

I have both the TC Electronic Polytune 2 clip on, and this one. The HUGE advantage of the Peterson for me is the ability to see it clearly in the sunshine when playing outdoors. It actually changes colour in the sunlight. The Polytune fails in this specific regard and is almost impossible to see in the sunshine which was driving me crazy. I also like the strobe once I got used to it. Very accurate and the HD display is extremely clear and easy to see. It has a large number of "Sweetened Tuning Calibrations". Also, you can connect to the Peterson Website via USB, to get firmware updates and customize. Very cool little deal. The best clip on I've seen.

After being fed up of constantly changing batteries and fighting with accuracy on my cheap Snark, I finally convinced myself it was worth to spend more for an accurate and reliable clip on tuner.
I ordered one from L&M
I was not disappointed, it is accurate enough for intonation.
That is the updated version with the wider spread spring.
It is the only tuner I got, I don't need anything else.
