The DarkHorse 15H all-tube guitar head is destined to be an instant classic. Fifteen watts of all-tube tone in a sub-compact head and cabinet combination specifically designed with the travelling musician in mind.

Simple Gain, Bass, Treble and Master controls allow easy access to the perfect amp sound on stage or in the studio. A Tonestack switch allows for either Brit or USA voicings or the "Pure" mode which bypasses the tone stack entirely, delivering a mid and overall gain boost allowing for the most direct signal path possible between your fingers and the speaker.

Selectable output power switches between two separate output stages - a higher headroom 15-watt pentode stage or a 2-watt triode stage for increased drive. A combination of 8 and 16-ohm outputs allows the DarkHorse to drive virtually any cabinet configuration.

Features:
• Selectable 12-Watt 6V6 or 0.8-Watt 12AU7 output modes
• Simple Gain, Bass, Treble & Master Volume Control Set
• "Brit/Pure/USA" Switch with the Pure setting bypassing Tone Stack (delivering a Mid Boost and Overall Gain Boost)
• Uses Hand Selected 12AX7 (x2), 6V6 (x2), and 12AU7 (x1) tubes.
• Gig bag is included.
• Made in Canada

Q & A

Question: can i plug in the darkhouse 2 12 8ohm and the 1 12 16ohm and the same time to this amp ??
- asked on Dec 26, 2023
Answer: You could. On the rear of the DH15H you’ll find a 16-ohm output jack and a pair of 8-ohm output jacks. This allows for a variety of cabinets to be connected to your amp. Take note that the 8-ohm jacks are connected internally in parallel and want to see 8-ohms total. If two 8-ohm cabinets were connected to the DH15H, the amp would actually see a 4-ohm load. While the DH15H is capable of driving this load, you’ll actually get less output power than if you were to connect a single 8-ohm cabinet. This is due to the impedance mismatch with the output transformer. Here are some examples of how to connect cabinets to your DarkHorse: • Connect a single Traynor DHX12 (16-ohms) to the 16-ohm output jack. • Connect a pair of Traynor DHX12 (16-ohms each, 8-ohms total when connected in parallel) to the 8-ohm jacks – one cabinet per jack.

Lunch is great when it comes from a restaurant that's been making it as long as Traynor's been making amps! This super-beefy little amp has a wide array of sounds attainable through the American/Brit settings, as well as the bypassed stack tone(amazing). I've owned my share of Traynor tube amps, but this is my favourite!

This amp does Fender-y cleans in American setting & Marshall-y drive in British. The Pure setting bypasses the tonestack altogether, adds a mid boost, & at high volumes delivers more gain than the British mode. Only thing it's missing is a foot switch to switch between them; I'm looking at having one installed custom. This is a great lil amp for recording or gigging, & can achieve great crunch tones. An overdrive is essential for really heavy gain sounds.

Bought with the Traynor cab. Love this amp and get tons of complements with it. Seems sound guys love it too. My impression is it's a Fender DDRI with attitude, ie., mid-range punch. I used the Brit setting (lots of mids) with distortion pedals for Marshall/Vox grind and the US setting for deep Fendery sounds with overdrive pedals. Plenty loud but most placed mic amps thru the PA ayways. Don't use the 1/2 watt setting for tone stack bypass but nice having it there for optional tones. Big plus is the gain control: acts as an input sensitivity control top match pickups to amp, as it should. Perfect. Thanks Traynor an intelligent design! Only drawback is the noise and hum. Thought it was just having the exposed amp, but it comed thru the speaker. Sounds guy didn't mention it's quite noisy compared to the YCS50. Otherwise, recommended!

Things I like: lots of tonal options with the 5/15 switchable power. Pure setting has great distortion and grit, including at low volumes; dhx cabinet is really nice quality and a good match for amp. Amp looks really cool and industrial. Things I don't like: the USA/Brit modes are noticeably quieter and not as good as the Pure setting; no channel switching or boost options.

One of the most versatile lunchbox amps I have played. Great sound and seemingly well made. Only had it for a couple of days. Rented it for a month then bought it. Traynor amps are getting noticed every were.

A neat, solid little amp. Lets your guitar shine through without any high gain pretension. Good bang for your buck too. On the bad side though I found it chews through tubes rather quickly and the paint on the front panel chips off easily.

Can put out everything from sparkling clean to "Hey, Hey, My, My". Can also be turned up to 11 in a small space to get that wonderful tube sound without blowing your eardrums. Looks cool with the tubes glowing in the dark.

Having played guitar since 1963 and owned many different amps, a couple of Traynors, couple of Epiphone, Garnet's, Roland, Fender, Marshall, I can testify that this little puppy can take anybody from beginner to professional and give you absolutely fantastic tone. Super clean to real down and dirty grunge like the big Marshall amps. Except it doesn't weigh 50lbs. Deep bottom end, super highs, its got you covered. Traynor has really hit a home run with this little amp.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
