Gerard Billaudot Rhapsodie Japonaise - Opus 48 - Tchesnokov - Flute/Piano
Composer: Dimitri Tchesnokov
Format: Sheet Music
Instrumentation: Flute and Piano
Commissioned by Les Flaneries Musicales de Reims festival, France.
The Rhapsodie japonaise, based on traditional modes, draws its inspiration from Japanese culture. This work with its exotic tinge evokes sometimes the sensual dance of a geisha, sometimes Noh theatre with its trance-like moments, sometimes dances ranging from those of warriors of the mediaeval era to those of nocturnal lights in modern Japanese cities. Moreover, in this work, the composer sought to pay tribute to filmmakers such as Nagisa Oshima, Takeshi Kitano and Akira Kurosawa.
