This is a 0.001 microfarad capacitor that is the typical value for a tone bleed cap. It's placed across the hot and wiper (centre) terminals of a volume pot to maintain the high resonant peak of the pickups as the volume control is turned down.
The value is too small to be used as a tone cap, as another reviewer found out.
