As I'm in a pipeband I have to practice lots of rudiments and this was my first pad. For beginners playing on a drum kit its great, not so much for rudimental drummers though. It's also very loud but you can change the tension on the pad which is quite nice.

This pad is unique as you can tune it which is a very cool feature. However, I found it much MUCH too noisy for practicing in a room, or even out on a patio. It is louder than any electronic kit I have ever heard/played, which makes it undesirable. I would highly recommend any size of the Evans RealFeel which has a better (albeit less realistic, more bouncy) surface and is INCREDIBLY quiet. Around the same price, too depending on the size you get. All in all, if you don’t care about a really frickin noisy pad, it’s a solid pad with a great feature.

I got this drum pad with very high expectations, because my friend who is also a drummer was showing me how great hers was. At first I was quite impressed. Although it was loud, it had a very realistic feel and response, and also sounded pretty good. However, after about 3 months, I had dented the head quite a bit, stripped 2 of the tension rods, and severely dented the rim. If you are looking for a relatively cheap drum pad to use every once in a while, this is a great option. If you practice for multiple hours every week, I would recommend a stronger drum pad.

The feel of the pad is definitely close to a drumhead, but the pad not nearly as quite as a rubber pad.
Too noisy for me to use for practice.
