ECS Publishing Songs of Remembrance: No. 2 And if thou wilt, remember - Rossetti/Chatman - SSATB
Additional Photos:
Lyrics: Christina Rossetti (1830 - 1894)
Composer: Stephen Chatman
Format: Choral Octavo
Voicing: SSATB with piano accompaniment and optional clarinet
Commissioned by the Winnepeg Philharmonic Choir, this is the second of a set of two pieces for SATB (divisi,) piano, and optional clarinet. (There is a brief mezzo or treble solo in this movement.) This Christina Rossetti text is touching and poignant, "When I am dead, my dearest, Sing no sad songs for me". The soprano is divisi throughout, the baritones divide in one measure and that's the extent of the divisi. A sad, ironic ("and if thou wilt, forget") and totally memorable piece.
