Seymour Duncan Blackout Humbucker - Set
9-volt, active humbucker for aggressive playing styles. Recommended for old school metal, garage, punk, thrash, drop tunings and other heavy rock styles.
The "other", USA-made active humbuckers use unbalanced inputs in a differential preamp. The problem is, an unbalanced differential preamp is not very effective at cancelling hum. Our engineers figured out how to capture the tone that players want in an active design, but using balanced inputs. The result is 12dB to 14dB less noise, plus more lows, more highs and more output. Simply put, Blackouts have more tone than other active pickups.
Complete Setup
Blackouts are available in individual neck and bridge models, or as a two-pickup set. All versions come with all necessary mounting hardware, including pots, jack and a battery clip.
Guitars
For all humbucker guitars. The blade magnets make this pickup suitable for both humbucker and Trembucker string spacings.

Devastating metal tones. These active pickups are scorching like boiling metal and deliver top quality sound.
Perhaps the best investment if you like what I just explained. They were for me!

So I’m new to active pickups, I recently bought a used Ltd m-330r which come with esp copies of emgs. Loving the neck on the guitar I want to upgrade some parts etc new bridge, pickups.
After watching many comparison videos decided to go with the Seymour Duncan blackouts and was not disappointed!!! First off I noticed how buttery they sounded with loads of distortion, very nice. Then was kinda blown away how organic they sounded clean for lack of a better term. So ya if your looking for that secret weapon in tone, these would be a huge advantage!

I've been an EMG fan boy for years. And my parents bought me a set of Blackouts for my birthday not knowing anything about pickups when they purchased them for me just knew I liked active. Although slightly disappointed at first not being EMG's I threw them in my Jackson USA King V and everything I thought I knew and loved about actives changed. They sound better then any other active I've used. the tone, clarity, high output and punch these pick ups deliver is unbelievable they have all the midrange tone and fuller more rounded bottom end EMG's were always lacking that I was unaware of

Once people try blackouts out they are usually blown away if their ears can tell the difference between pickups to begin with. On average guitars you get more power , more output and aggression. It's essentially the best of both worlds they where thinking of with these pickups you get the hum cancelling and quietness of active pickups plus everything you love about high output passive pickups. I've played both extensively and overall I'll go blackouts any day.
The good news is that they are wire solderless meaning if you have active electronics yourself you don't need to go to a guitar shop and swap the active pickups yourself and swapping batteries is extremely easy even on the newer guitars that long and mcquade chooses to sell with the extra compartment especially made for the batteries.
I'd recommend these to anyone playing metal or hard rock. Ola Englund amongst many others did pickup comparisons using the whole line (pre-2012) on youtube to see if these are right for you. The only thing I don't like is the bases of these are plastic just like EMG , over all if you swap pickups a lot or just aren't careful this can be a big problem with either.
