Epiphone's number one selling model, the Les Paul Special-II E1, is a great way for beginners to get started on guitar while getting the feel and tone of a Les Paul. Seasoned pros also love the Special-II E1 because it's a great-sounding workhorse of a guitar that allows them to leave their more expensive axes at home. Formerly known as the Les Paul Special-II.

From the factory, this guitar will require some setup. Action was incredibly high and pickups were bottomed out. I have owned it now for about 3 years and it is my daily driver. I installed a kill switch and a latching switch to activate a Peter Green phase circuit. This guitar plays and sounds like a thousand bucks. My only complaint is my own lack of foresight in buying a guitar without protective finishing. This guitar will scratch and indent if you so much as forget to kiss it goodnight.

Not too bad for its price. It has some issues holding its tune but not insurmountable.

I was looking for cheap les paul tone without breaking the bank and then I came across this guitar it’s tone doesn’t really sound like a les Paul and there’s a rattling sound coming from the bridge I tried to tighten it and it did nothing to help so what I recommend do not buy this guitar

I had a cheaper les paul, and decided to get an uprgade. All I can say is that it plays great, and sounds amazing. All in all would recomend to anyone who wants an affordable and well made (for it's price) les paul.

I bought a Gibson Les Paul and love it but it is 8lbs and so well finished I hate to use it on the couch and leave it out all the time. Now buying this Epi Vintage is another story. Sounds good, pickup output is much more volume than the Gibson and it isn’t as well finished but love the satin and it is 3lbs lighter at 5.15lbs. Much nicer for on the couch and sound is awesome. So it is my out and every day guitar and the Gibson is for special occasions. Glad L&M put the Gibson on sale and Gibson is able to mass produce a decent guitar in USA at a reasonable price. The Epiphone also is well made and I believe a nice compliment to anyone’s collection. Begs to be used.

Bought this as my first electric guitar. My favourite acoustic is my Small Martin Black and this compliments it well. The neck is a little wider at the body and 3 or 4 cm longer than the Martin but they play very similarly. Guess its an electric solid body thing but the frets are big. Fit and finish on this Epi is very good and the sound seems to be anything you want. Through my Fishman Acoustic Mini 60 watt amp it sounds like the Martin and through a modeling electric guitar amp it sounds like anything you want. Very nice purchase for me. Like the solid bridge anchor and the tone/action adjustable bridge. Very nice would recommend. Bill McKenzie

I bought one of these looking to get back into playing. I found this one reasonably priced and does it ever perform. I dare say that it might be a good enough guitar to take on stage with the right amp. The action is good and the neck is straight. Great guitar.

Been using this guitar for 2.5 years when I started. Since then I have played it consistently almost every day for over an hour each day. For a beginner on a low budget interested in hard rock and heavier genres, this is a great choice for its price. However, it's been through a lot obviously, including an input jack that needed to be fixed because of the wire breaking. It also has a weird issue with the toggle switch cutting out the gain of the guitar randomly when switching between pickups (I rarely go out of the bridge pickup but it's annoying when it does this). Obviously, after 2.5 years I have obviously been yearning for a better tone, but this guitar did what it needed to and kept me playing! This guitar mixed with a Boss 50 Katana does good, it's not great, but for its price, it's excellent. It also looks awesome, plays well and feels decent. I haven't played many other guitars yet so I can't compare much, but for someone new to guitar who is interested in hard rock +metal and can't afford most other instruments, this guitar is excellent and completely relevant.

This is a keeper. As a beginner, I wanted a decent guitar that stays in tune and is interesting to play. This is it. I originally bought an all inclusive package strat clone guitar from Amazon but everything about it was crap! Returned it. Bought this off the rack from L&M and could not be happier. It's beautiful, It sounds great, it stays in tune, it is very comfortable, and it's light! I love the feel. At the store, I tried several different models, some that were much more expensive (and to be honest, I could have afforded them) but this one just feels the best, so I bought it and now I'm constantly playing. I also bought a Boss Katana Mini and it sounds awesome. This rig will last me for a year or two until I can justify something new, and most likely I'll end up upgrading this because I absolutely love it.

I've had my Epiphone LP VE for about two months and it plays well enough and sounds good. The quality of fit and finish are pretty rough. The wood grain on the guitar and cutout are rough and you can feel the rough wood grain. The factory could have done a better job sanding the wood before applying the finish. The edges of the fretboard are sharp and the frets are sharp. It's a good sounding guitar for the price and it plays well enough, as long as you don't mind the poor finish quality.

I bought this about a year back as my first guitar, and I'm still using it. It's been the perfect guitar for me to learn on. It feels good, it plays good, it sounds good, it's versatile, and I didn't break the bank to get it. The only thing I think would make this the true starter guitar would be individual tone/volume knobs for each pup, and maybe a pickguard. But hey, this is a Special not a Standard. This thing sounds great. It sounds like an Epiphone, but it still sounds great all things considered. Since buying this guitar, I've made several modifications. Covered it in stickers (I'm a teenager, sue me), etched my initials on the back, removed the neck Pup, 3D printed a pickguard, etc. Throughout everything I've put this thing through, it's still holding up like the day I bought it. I've had a blast playing this, and would highly recommend this guitar to anyone interested in playing an electric.

I bought this guitar for one of my friends that had been going through rough times. I’ve been playing for a year now and was shocked to see such an amazing guitar for the price. The pickups sound beautiful, the cherry burst on mine is just fantastic, and it has a nice satin finish for easy playing, with all of the les Paul tone. I have a Gibson and an American fender, and I’d say that this guitar sounds mostly on-par with the rest of mine. Five stars from me. Good work Epiphone.

I'm a beginner and after being at a friend's place listening to him play some of his more expensive guitars, I decided I wanted one. I found this one on a review site and it said it was a real steal. Warm sounding, easy to play, great finish, etc. Found at my local shop and after I got it home, I strummed the few notes and cords I knew. Yup, those sites are correct. Great sounding instrument that I'm proud to own. The fretboard is a bit difficult to wrap my hand around but I'm sure that it's just I need practice. Bottom like is stop reading this and go buy it already.

This is a fun little Epi to play. I love the matte black finish on it (makes it look mean). The fit and finish on this guitar is exceptional for the price point. it comes with Grover tuners, two humbuckers, a volume & tone and a three way switch to give you plenty of different sounds. A very straight forward guitar that plays well. Two hundred bucks brand new is a great price for a second guitar or if you're just starting out.

First off, I LOVE the matte finish on this guitar, its got a meaner look. The sound the guitar produces is astounding for its low 210 price. Exposed buckers look mad snazzy and the matte finish is all the way through, including the neck and headstock. Just a beautiful guitar for the price point.

As a beginner to guitar, this is a solid , well built guitar. It's got basic features that are well done. Have not actually plugged it in yet, as I don't have an amp yet. It feels good to hold and is light enough to stand and play for a long time. Sound is good, even without an amp.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
