The Pickup Booster is for those times you need to be just a little louder, cut through the mix with more clarity, or have to play a song with a distinctive humbucker tone on a single-coil guitar.

A true-bypass pedal with class A, low-noise circuit design, Pickup Booster can be used to dial in the tone you need for every situation. It is exceptional at emphasizing a guitars natural tone while adding some muscle and fatness. The Gain control can be turned down to unity (0dB) with a discrete push-pull output stage for increased drive capability. So even with the Gain knob down at 0dB, your signal chain will sound cleaner -even with long cable runs- essentially acting as a buffer on your pedalboard.

Need a humbucker sound out of that vintage Strat? The Resonance Switch makes the pedal interact directly with your pickups, allowing your single-coils to emulate either a chunky humbucker sound perfect for classic rock or blues or a high-output tone for rip roaring solos. You can also use the Pickup Booster for a clean, buffered boost with more headroom and fatten up a humbucker for maximum saturation and sustain all with the flick of a switch.

Works as advertised. Boosts the signal to your amp by 25db, making it quite a bit louder. And because it pushes your amp harder it adds a bit of grit but not distortion pedal or overdrive level grit. A little "hair" as we like to say.
The model I purchased was the "Limited Edition Black Version" but the circuitry is the same as the red unit shown on this page (and same price).
I bought this to match the level of my Elite Strat to my Clapton Strat which has that built in 25db boost circuitry. My goal was to be able to switch guitars and not have to make large adjustments to my amp settings.
I tested it in store using a Boss Nextone amp, which is similar to my Katana 100 MKI (Guitar into the pedal and pedal into the amp input).
The level knob on this pedal allows you to increase the db's from zero to 25, so it gives you a wide range to work with. Nicely tapered volume increase and no big jumps in volume as you turn the dial.
The mini toggle has 3 settings and as the online forums and retailers said, position 1 works best for my Elite Strat. Position 2 is very muddy and dark for my Strat, but position 2 is designed for humbuckers, and if you use humbuckers you will see why.
NOTE:
When trying this pedal at the store, we initially used a Boss PSA power supply (power supply is not included with this pedal). The noise caused by the Boss power supply made it unusable. It had a shrill high pitched whine which only got worse as I turned up the gain or volume on the amp.
I was warned about this noise online and I mentioned that to the sales rep. I was expecting to have to engage the NS on the Katana to reduce it. Hard to do on the spot though as setting the Noise Reduction requires a laptop or tablet. I'm not sure why the Boss PSA introduced the high pitched whine with this pedal as it is dead silent with my ME-80.
However, the sales rep swapped it for a Truetone 1 Spot 9VDC/1700mA Adaptor and it was dead silent. So heads up if you run into the same issue when trying out this or any pedal. Big thank you to the sales rep at Edmonton South for his help fixing the power supply issue. Needless to say I purchased the 1 Spot power supply with this boost pedal.
Try before you buy always, and I hope this gives you a bit of insight into the workings of this boost pedal.

I have a fender american deluxe strat with N3 Noisless pickups. This pedal works great when using some gain with a pedal or even clean. I like the vintage humbucker setting, it still sounds a bit like a single coil but more towards a humbucker. I would recomend this to anyone with single coils

Thoroughly impressed. The pedal does exactly what it claims to be able to do - not just make your signal louder, but change the sound of your single coils to humbuckers. Definitely cheaper and easier than swapping pickups. Little to no added noise, entirely transparent in the "0" setting, and still retains the unique characteristics of your own guitar in the "1" and "2" settings. Great for a little (or a lot) of added "oomph" for solos. Very cool and useful pedal.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
