Have owned this Princeton for more than a year now (from L&M) and have used it clean and with a variety of pedals. It's a solid, clean, brillant amp. In fairness I don't use the vibrato setting that much - but the reverb is on 80% of the time at various intensity settings according to whatever pedal I'm using. For context I also currently own a Tweed Blues Jr (from L&M) and it's very, very good. The difference for my ear is a subtle amount of no-pedal grit and grind; the Blues Jr had more natural grit and when you apply a pedal, this natural bluesy grit is increased - which a lot of players (including me) love. What the Princeton offers by context and comparison is a cleaner, crisper amplification with sharper more distinctive trebles and clearer, well-defined bass lows, and seemingly endless middle depth of range - especially with your pedal of choice. Princeton purists love a Jensen speaker (and I get it, no argument) however this is an incredible variation on that Princeton-Jensen lineage. This Eminence speaker is incredibly clear and crisp; the ?bedroom settings? start around 1.5 - 2 and the speaker starts pushing air at about 6. If you're looking for a pure Jensen Princeton, then get that. If you're looking for a Princeton bloodline that marries innovation and tradition, this will continue to impress and satisfy - especially if swapping in pedals. I personally regard the Princeton as the Porsche 911 of amps; lots of Ferraris out there, Mercedes, Rolls Royce, etc, and they're all awesome in their own ways, no question. But a Princeton is a Princeton and this is an incredibly good amp that will last a lifetime of playing, for a variety of playing styles and genres.

L&M were gracious and accommodating regarding my impatience on the amp repair, and my request for a refund. The Pembina staff & mgmt were, as always, top drawer. I am thankful for their understanding. They remain my #1 choice as the go-to in the city.

My experience is much like Guenette's.
I purchased the amp in January 2022 and worked great until end of July. Took it in to L&M for warranty repair and it's been sitting there waiting for parts since August 4th, 2022. It's now Nov. 3rd, 2022. Still waiting for delivery of parts.
Three full months is a frustrating amount of time to wait for parts from a major manufacturer who is still pumping out new amps. This situation makes me want to avoid purchasing Fender amps in the future.

I'm going to see if I can get a refund.

The 12" Cannabis Rex speaker takes this amp into new sonic territory. Smoother, rounder and louder - exactly the dreamy, glassy tone I've been looking for in a grab n' go amp. Gorgeous to look at as well. Add pedals for flavour and grit as desired. Natural tube overdrive above 6 on the dial is very nice. Replaced my Blues Junior with this and it was well worth the upgrade! Playable at volume 3 at home without an attenuator. More responsive to touch than any digital / solid state amp I've used. Although I'd love some more connectivity features (headphone jack, XLR out, bluetooth) that will have to wait for a ToneMaster version. This is a nearly perfect home and small gigging amp that I will never part with.

I've had this for a year and a half and I absolutely love it. Important to qualify that I paired it with a Tone King Iron Man 2 attenuator. This is a marriage made in heaven. I either put the amp in a sweet spot at 8.5 or 5.5 and dial the Iron Man to the appropriate volume. I rarely touch my overdrive pedals anymore.

This is a great sounding amp but they should use a different name for this amp. This is not a Princeton, doesn’t sound and look like a Princeton at all. Tweed amps have unique characteristics. The well-known, famous sound of a Princeton is achieved with a 10” Jensen C10R or even a P10R (which provides warmer highs due to its alnico magnet). It’s like issuing a blackface Bassman with Celestion speakers.

I completely fell in love with this amp when I first tried it, as most do. Then completely fell out of love with it. You see a lot of these on the used market and I think it’s the speaker. It always sounds like there is a blanket over the amp as soon as you add overdrive or distortion. (Cleans always sound amazing.) At first most just eq to compensate but after a while the lack of top end sparkle and the low mid hump of the CR just seems flat and dull. I talked to a few other owners and they’ve had the same experience after a few months. (Long after their honeymoon reviews) Instead of returning it I took advantage of the 12” baffle and tried a few different speakers in it and Wow. It’s amazing how much a difference a speaker makes. I currently have a greenback in mine and it seems to love everything I throw in it but the Rex. I’m happy. But if I hadn’t had other speakers around I would have been very disappointed after the honeymoon phase.

I started out being very excited about this amp. Loved the upgraded 12" cannabis rex driver and look of the amp. However, after owning it for less than a year I had to take it in for service twice because the Vibrato circuit kept crapping out. Thanks to L&M South store in Edmonton, and the L&M "lemon" policy I was able to take the full cost of the amp and apply it to the purchase of a Boogie California Tweed. Based on all the positive reviews I must have got a "lemon" but thought I'd share my experience to see if anyone had the same experience.

This amp is just special. I found the regular version of this amp with the Jensen speaker had a bit too much treble for my taste. The 12” cannabis rex speaker (which usually sounds too bassy) balances this amp PERFECT! You can dial in lots of treble or lots of bass. Whatever you prefer. My speaker isn’t even broke in yet and I can’t believe the sounds that come out of it. I never knew I was a fan of tremolo until I heard it on this amp. This amp can be used for bedroom or small gigs. I wouldn’t want to fight with a loud drummer with clean tones in a gig with this amp so consider using a mic with this amp on bigger gigs. The only thing I’m not too crazy about on this amp is the reverb. To me it sounds more like an echo than a delay. Maybe I just have some getting used to with fender. By the way. The yellow tweed is amazing in person! So pretty! It’s a bonus that such an amazing amp can come in a beautiful tweed colour.

I do not understand how this amp is cheaper than the '65 reissue with the 10" Jensen. This amp is just amazing. I am coming from a Boss Katana Artist, which was good, but I did not use any effects, and only used two dialed in preset, both clean. This does clean better than anything else I have heard. The sound is so full, warm, and dynamic. Outside the sound, the main difference coming from a SS amp is the play feel - it is just so responsive to playing technique, it is truly an extension of the instrument. I could not be happier!

What a beautiful piece of equipment. The build quality is pretty damn good and it sounds even better. I can't believe it took me this long to figure out that I needed a USA made Princeton reverb. I may have found the perfect amp for me. With the 12" Eminence speaker it is fantastic. It is actually very loud for 15 watts and the spring reverb along with the tremolo circuit sound great. Fender nailed it. I think I'll be selling my other amps (blues junior) soon...

I shopped around for a long time looking for my first tube amp with a warm clean jazz tone in mind. This one absolutely filled the bill. The other reviewers are right; the 12 CR speaker makes a huge difference. I tried it directly against the standard '65 PRRI with 10" speaker and the '68 model as well, and there was really no comparison... I found the tone I like ( not too loud, rolled off treble, bass up a bit, a little bit of reverb) and set it an forget it. It will play quite loud too but that's not what I wanted... I wanted a great sounding amp without getting too loud at home and that's what I got. (It would do small gigs easily though) (It would be nice to have an input for a music player, but hey it's an old school type amp...) I haven't played my "old" amp (Fender G-dec 30) in 6 months since I got this Princeton. Super happy!

Purchased this amp based on positive reviews. The amp sounds Amazing! But to my surprise after just a few weeks the amp started to make a strange popping and chirping noise. Took it back to L&M and they replaced, no questions asked. Would never think of buying a amp elsewhere. There customer service is top notch. Thanks L&M...

I had the Princeton 68 Custom before, but traded this in as I found the amp way too dark, and bassy. There was too much mid-range and you had to max out the treble to get a nice Fender chime. Got this Princeton 65 re-issue with the CR 12 inch speaker, instead, and immediately heard the difference. Back to it's Fender roots, sparkling cleans and classic Fender chime all the way. Amp is so quiet, and I found that it does not get as hot as the 68 Custom after the first hour of playing. Just a stellar amp. The 12 inch Cannabis Rex seems to make the amp louder and warmer.

I had been looking around for a good quality amp that had great clean tones and a warm clear tone mostly for jazz. I'd looked at the Henrikson Blue (solid-state, not sold by LM) which has excellent reviews but also pretty pricey. So I looked to a tube amp for the first time, This Fender Princeton Reverb RI the with CR speaker really caught my eye. I did a direct comparison with the "standard" Princeton, a Traynor YGL1 and YGL2, Vox AC30, a Fender Blues Jr 4, and a couple of others... This model, especially with the Cannabis Rex speaker, really stood out for warm clean tones at livingroom playable levels, which is what I needed. (Cranked up over 5-6 it will start to distort a bit if that's want) It's very touch sensitive, responsive without any "boominess" I had with my Fender G-Dec 30. It does have a really nice reverb and tremolo on a footswitch, but I usually just set the reverb on 2-3 and leave it. the CR speaker really does make a terrific difference. It would be nice to have 1/8 " input jack for an mp3 player or phone to play backing tracks over, but I realize it's a traditional amp without frills, so I can live with it. I've had it a couple of months and overall I'm really pleased with it. You won't be disappointed!

I’ve had a PRRI in the past with the 10” Jensen and it was ok, but I ended up trading it back in for another amp, so I was hesitant to go for another PRRI again, but this one is different. The speaker change is a real upgrade and makes a big difference. Nice Fender blackface cleans, lots of headroom, and breaks up nicely when you get the volume up there past 6 on the dial. And don’t judge a book by the cover, yes it’s only 15 watts, one channel, one speaker, but it’s a LOUD 15 watts, single speaker little combo. It will surprise you, and the sound man at your next gig won’t hate you, and your back will thank you that you don’t gig with an AC30 or Twin! Nice looks with the lacquer tweed, comes with a nice original style Fender Chrome footswitch for the reverb and tremolo/vibrato, and nice Fender amp cover. Try one out, you’ll probably take it home with you. Bonus that even with the upgraded 12” Eminence speaker, it’s still the same price as the regular 10” Jensen version, and cheaper than the 68’ reissue.

I was looking for a nice "grab and go" Fender that wasn't too heavy but sounded great. I've had a Deluxe, then down-sized to the SuperChamp XD but found the 10" speaker not to be my style. I played through a friends Princeton and thought it was superior to the XD, but I couldn't get over the 10" speaker. Then comes this version with 12" C-Rex. Well I have to say I really like it - nice full bottom end and typical fender clean - with high headroom. I noticed at around 5 it returns with tube warmth and can get hot - too loud for the house but the high end rounds off the more you push it.

Love this amp. Took me awhile to get to it at the store when comparing to the other PRRIs, but this one with the 12" Cannabis Rex speaker really shines. The bass notes are spot on with no "flubbyness" at all.

Just picked this up and have to say I'm impressed. The CR speaker is worth about $100 more than a typical Jensen and you're getting that at no extra cost. Why buy another PR for the exact same price with a lower quality speaker? This was an absolute bargain on that point alone. Lots of headroom, nice chime like cleans typical of any good fender. I bought this to downsize from a twin. I put it up to 10 and my head didn't explode, if I did that with the twin I wouldn't be here writing this. Great value and love the looks too.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
