Inspired by the witness and example of his good friend Barbara Colliander and her work with the poor, David Haas virtually blazed through the composing of this GIA best-seller. David believes that the success of this song is due largely in part to the fact that it "came from a place of tremendous and total gratitude for the 'ambassadors of God' at the Dorothy Day Center [in St. Paul, MN] and for the witness and example of [his] good friend, Barbara." In November of 2014 "Blest Are They" celebrates its 30th anniversary.
