The first choice in experiencing acoustic-electric music.

Derived from FG800 which has the solid spruce top and nato/okume back and sides, FGX800C has a cutaway body and the electric system. Yamaha's proprietary under-saddle piezo pickup and System66 analog preamp ensure the solid plugged-in performance.

Newly Developed Scalloped Bracing

A new FG has louder and stronger sound in the low- to mid-ranges, thanks to cutting-edge acoustic analysis technology developed by the Yamaha R&D Division. Yamahas engineers have achieved this sound by utilizing analysis and simulation to arrive at the best bracing design without depending on tradition or guesswork. This analysis led to the development of the new scalloped bracing pattern, a new and ideal acoustic structure that maintains the durability of the top board while bringing out the most sound the Yamaha FG has to offer.

50 Years of History

The history of Yamahas FG series started in 1966 with the release of the FG180 and FG150. Over the 50 years since its introduction, we have developed and produced several generations of FG - all of which have made FG the ideal acoustic for contemporary players. In all, there have been over 200 FG models since 1966.

Made in Yamaha

Every aspect of an FG is crafted to make a better guitar. From painstakingly cured and dried woods to beautiful hand-sprayed finishes and detailed quality control checks each and every FG is made to be a lifelong partner.

Electric System

System 66 feature an under-saddle piezo pickup developed by Yamaha. Controls include a 3-band EQ, an adjustable mid-range frequency control, and a precision chromatic tuner for optimum sound tailoring. The system is powered by easy to obtain AA-size batteries that provide a stable power supply for improved sound quality.

This is what I call a poor man's Taylor. It has fantastic action, sound and finish. The pickup system is the best I have played under an Anthem. Awesome plugged in, not that thin annoying sound you get with a cheap Piezo. Great bass response but leaves a nice scoop for someone with a lower voice. We usually have to fight with the lower registers on a Martin dread, or just play a trebbly thing like 000 or 00 to create vocal space. Somehow, this guitar gives you a solid bass and midrange, but also scoops a high bass vocal range. Its dynamic range is great too, it does have tons of sound combinations in the right hands. I have used it for busking now for a full Summer and ended up buying it. Caution: please buy the 2023 model. I compared the older ones and the do not have these improvements in scalloped bracing for tone and a good pickup. Buy it new or 2023 or later. The older ones not nearly as good.

I am a keyboard player and have played many Yamaha products but I am a reasonably new guitar player and when I finally decided to bite the bullet and get myself a decent guitar I tried several and of course some pretty high end models. The folks at L&M were super helpful and assured me the best quality for my money it was the Yamaha hands down. I am so happy I went with this guitar. It has a light touch, is pain free to play for a newbie and the finish quality is fantastic. I paired it with an Acoustic amp and the sound quality is superb with zero noise from the electronics at rest. Just a really nice looking and sounding guitar. Great job Yamaha

I was at L&M trying out different brands of acoustic guitars. I was skeptical about Yamaha especially for a guitar under $500, but I have to say I was glad I gave it a try. Great tone and playability for the price, I could have spent double or even triple the price but necessarily wouldn't have got a better guitar. Solid top and excellent construction, this is a good guitar for anyone just playing at home, with friends or on stage.

I bought this guitar 2 years ago. It sounded good from the start. But after a year (after it was broken in a bit) I had it professionally set up with a new set of elixir strings and now I noticed guitar really warmed up with a great mid range, playability is very good. My only minor complaint is the neck had a small rough spot near the headstock. I’m very happy with this guitar, P.

I went to the Oshawa store and I tried lots of guitars that were in my price range. I wanted a good quality guitar at a medium price. I tried lots of guitars but this one stood out. I loved everything about this guitar and it is definitely worth the money. I highly recommend this guitar.

Sounded pretty awesome out of the box! Solid top and cross bridging and a decent pick up!!! for the price it can't be beat. I lowered the action a little and changed out the plastic bridge and the nut with nubone. Sounds Even Better now ! I like many others tried everything the 1000 price range and this guitar was the winner. Have had it for two years now and it gets played daily. I have a decent case and have even taken it on a few camping trips. It stays in tune and every time I pick it up it's hard to put down. That to me is the definition of a great guitar! highly recommend!!

I've owned Gibsons and Taylors and Yamahas. I always wind up back where it started. Beautiful finish and playablity and the sound is perfect, both warm and bright too. I'm so glad I got this guitar. It's up to par with any of the big money companies plus I live in a climate that frequently changes so being solid top and lam sides, the fluctuations in temp don't worry me. nice sounding pick up and the 66 preamp it's great. The staff at L&M here in Windsor are great too.

I spent over 2 days trying out over 50 guitars in 3 different stores. I was prepared to spend up to $1000. The sound on this thing is killer! It has some of the chimeyness of a Taylor but not too trebley and some of the bottom end of a Martin. This guitar is loud. I play pretty hard and it takes it like a champ! Played pretty good out of the box but really came alive once it was setup. The only thing I wish it had was a neck strap button but my tech fixed that. I'm pretty animated on stage and can't stand having one end of the strap tied to the top of the neck. Falls off my shoulder when jumping around. The Martins and Taylor's up to the $1500 range just didn't have the time I was looking for. This thing smokes em and the for the price, it can't be beat. Hats off Yamaha!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
