Chose this for my first guitar and have played it for a year and a half. As badly as I want to upgrade as I've progressed, it is so difficult to justify due to how excellent of an instrument this guitar truly is. Solid top and overall construction produce clear, full sound that is unheard of in this price range. I highly recommend it to any beginner or intermediate player.

I wanted to get into an acoustic to have something to play some of the old folk music I am into ( I'm dating myself! lol) and I wanted a guitar with a solid spruce top. Nothing else came close in price. The sound is on par with guitars that cost 2-3x as much. Great for having a guitar you can take out with you. The sounds are pleasant. People are surprised when I told them how inexpensive it is. If you are just starting out and want a guitar which will give you decent sound and gain a permanent spot in your collection, then this guitar should work for you.

These guitars perform way above their price point. And with a couple minor tweaks are even better. Nice warm tone, good neck, resonant bass notes and reasonably bright highs. Once the strings are worked in a bit very stable tuning too. Excellent beginner's learning instrument, and even beyond for a daily workhorse indoor and out. I have a Seagull S6 and at half the price the Yamaha doesn't give all that much away to it in several ways. Would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone starting out or getting back into playing.

It looks great, it sounds decent for a beginner. I think more seasoned players will have an ear and look for a better instrument at a higher end of the price range. The fret ends are a bit sharp and could use polishing up, that's what I'll do on mine. It stays in tune very well, the tuners are good. No electronics mean you'll need a tuner and you cannot plug into an acoustic amp. It only has one strap button on the bottom of the guitar meaning that you can't use a strap unless you buy another button and drill it in yourself. This is a big bummer in my opinion. I think that a lot of people reviewing it on here got too excited and say that they should sell it for more. I think that it's definitely a no brainer choice for a beginner, but this isn't an expensive guitar. It'll do a great job for those new to guitar but don't compare it to an expensive guitar. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with it, but if this was around $500 I'd look elsewhere. PROS:Price, tuning stability, sound. CONS: sharp fret ends, no strap button.

This guitar was recommended to me by an instructor. Before I bought it I rented for a two months. This proved to be a great way to try out guitars before you buy. These was the third guitar I rented. Liked it right off but thought the action was a little stiff and the strings a bit too high. After buying I used the technician to correct both of these issues. The results are amazing. Much easier to play. I asked Jennifer from L&M to recommend some string and again very happy with her recommendation.

Was out of stock in most stores, had to go to Cambridge to pickup but I figure because of how great it is, and I do not regret it. Really nice sound and feel. Would recommend to someone who knows they enjoy guitar and wants something that will last but also be nice to play.

a Yamaha acoustic was my first guitar over 50 years ago. I paid $200.00 at the time & had it for 15 years. I just let go of my Martin rated 'Performing Artist' since I only play once a week at home. But I could not be without a guitar in the house so I bought this Yamaha for $250. It feels, looks, sounds like a much more expensive guitar. I tried other brands that were in the $500 to $650 range but they couldn't compete. the matte finish was a great idea as well & looks super. And all this for $50 more than I paid in 1960 !
Great buy ! Go for it Yamaha

When I decided to learn guitar, my very experienced brother and I went to try out a bunch. We tried out all the rentals they had; Yamaha, epiphone, Denver... this one felt and sounded the best! I am currently renting this one from L&M, and am actually considering buying it outright. I love that it's matte, and it fits me just right. And for the price, it's the perfect first guitar for me.

Absolutely LOVE this guitar. For the price of it is absolutely amazing, solid spruce top with laminated nato back and sides, and scalloped fret board, great feeling and easy to play neck, and it has a nice and deep tone. I slapped some Ernie Ball Earthwood 12-54 bronze strings on it and it sounds just as good as any expensive Takamine or Gibson acoustic. The only thing I don't like about it is how thick it is, but that was easily adjusted to.

It's a delight to hear a rich warm sound in a budget oriented guitar which is playable. Very good workmanship with a classic double striped black binding. Throat of neck actually inserts inside the body adding stability and strength. I haven't yet been able to justify owning an expensive acoustic In a very dry climate. Hence; this fits the bill perfectly.

I bought this guitar almost a year ago. I love this guitar and am told by experienced players that it is a great compact guitar. The strings do take time to get used to but that is normal with acoustic guitars- I am already used to it....
I am having a very positive experience with this guitar so far.

Got this as my first acoustic since it's pretty affordable, and I've been pretty happy with it. I really have no prior experience or knowledge with acoustic guitars, and how they compare to eachother. But I'll add my two cents. I think the strings that come with it are pretty crummy, they felt like they were grabbing onto my fingers, which made it a little tricky to play. So I'd recommend getting some new strings right away. I got the standard d'addario lights and they seemed to be much better. There are also some slightly rough patches on the sides of the body, but it's really no big deal. The edges of the body are also a little sharp. And by that I just mean that they're at a 90° angle with no round over, so if you arm is in certain positions it can be kind of uncomfortable. But that's really all I have to say about the guitar. I like playing it. I'm sure it's not the greatest guitar, but I'm also sure that you'd be able to play it just fine, and have a hoot of a time. Doing so.
Also, Burlington store is awesome, the staff there are really cool and nice!

I was "all electric" but wanted to get an acoustic to cut out the need be where the amp was. Tried a few guitars in the shop and had almost made my mind up to go with another make when the salesman brought this Yamaha. It sounded good straight out of the box, better than the others, so I put my money down on this one. Got it home and was impressed with the overall product - nice sound, nice finish etc but after a couple of days the sound was a bit 'muddy' so I put a new set of Gibson strings on it. What a difference!! The only issue I have is that the is no strap button at the top of the body. I don't like having the strap tied over the nut end of the neck. I'll take it to get a button.
Having a lot of fun with the guitar and would recommend it as a great buy for $250.

Recently purchased this guitar and couldn't be happier. A solid, practical acoustic for an extremely reasonable price. Sound is great, especially the mids and lows. Action was a tad high out of the box, but after the complementary L&Q setup it was absolutely perfect. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a quality guitar on a budget

I love this guitar. Really impressed.
I gave it 5 stars even for features because of how cheap it is. I personally like the matte finish over the gloss and would have paid the extra 20 if the prices were reversed. After i break it in i will probaby do some minor upgrades like tusq saddle and pins etc, but right out of the box i think it sounds great. Stael of a deal!

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty
A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.
Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.
How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.
Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.
Purchasing additional years of coverage
Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.
If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:
NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
