Conservatory Canada Guide To Contemporary Idioms - Level 2 - Piano - Book
Additional Photos:
Authors: Peter Clements, Vicky Oveson, Derek Stoll, Brian Usher
Format: Book
Instrumentation: Piano
Level: 2
The purpose of this Guide is to provide resource material to both teacher and student to help prepare the examination requirements for Level 2 of the Contemporary Idioms Syllabus (piano). The materials should serve as preparation for Technical Tests, Sight Reading, Improvisation, and Aural Tests. As well, these materials should also provide the student with a set of skills that will be useful in approaching the repertoire at this level: skills such as rhythm reading (especially syncopated figures, and swing rhythm) and developing a repertoire of stylistic melodic patterns. Level 2 introduces improvisation for the first time, in a 'call and response' format, with some careful guidance. From the earliest examples, the improvisation has the potential to emerge as stylistic and musical.
