I don’t know why people give it hate? It is a great pedal for amps that don’t have very strong gain or overdrive (ex. Fender princeton) and it is very easy to use you just give it a stomp and set the distortion and then you play whatever that uses loads of gain. The only problem is why isn’t it run by standard batteries? You have to get a specific power cord and you need another input cord but anyways, if you play metal, GET IT!!!!!!!

It is super customizable and sounds amazing. I play my Les Paul into a fender mustang 1 amp, and it sounds amazing way better than my old boss DS-1

This thing is great! I don't know why people say its bad in front of an amp. Mine goes right into my Fender g-dec junior! It can go all the way from crunchy blues to searing thrash metal! I would totally recommend this to a friend

What’s with reviewers saying this pedal sounds terrible in the front of an amp ( into the input)? Nothing could be further from the truth. I guess these people don’t know how to adjust the EQ’s on their amp and on the pedals. Run it into an effects loop? What for? This is one great fun pedal to use, and way more versatile than you might think. Some great tones often only found in boutique pedals. All the negative people are far out numbered by the millions who own a Metal Zone. Learn to adjust and tweak people.

Use it in an effects loop and you will have great results every single time. Use it in line with the amp and it will be as horrible as everyone has told you it would be.

I have a few dirt pedals (MXR Super Badass, Rat, MT-2) that I have been a/b-ing and stacking for a few months now, from a US STD Strat into a Vox AC15C1. I like them all. Each has its own character and range.
MT-2 is metal in a pedal. With the controls on the pedal, amp and guitar, the tones are almost limitless. From crisp, chug, wail, and crunch to fuzz. Most of my playing now is in my living room, and the MT-2 gives me metal tones at low volumes. On the rare occasions when the neighbours are out, and I get to add the MT-2 to an overdriven amp...oh man. Well worth $130 to me.

If you use this pedal in between your guitar in the input of your amp it will sound really bad, the best spot for this pedal is in your amps effect loop. It really does shine there if you set the knobs properly.

This is the distortion pedal everyone loves and hates.
I personally love it.
Yes, there are other dist pedals that are much better. But Boss Metal Zone is good for specific distortion sound. Perhaps it might not be the best suited for current metal sounds. It is not a fuzz nor dark enough. But if you wish to re create 80s 90s heavy metal to classic thash metal sound, this pedal will work for you.

This is an awesome stompbox not just for metal a little tweak on the knobs makes a huge change put your amp neutral and have fun. It naturally produces a crisp sound. I've had tons of stompboxes and multi effects over the 28 years this is one of those you want to keep in your collection.

After watching a lot of YouTube videos to find that just right sound and buying a lot of different pedals only to find that they just didn't have what tone I was looking for,I took a chance on this Boss Metal pedal and was really surprised at just how many sounds you can get from it.
I needed to replace my much missed Roland Bee Baa.
I was just looking for a bit more grit and growl and this pedal delivered.
Before you go out and pay three times the cost for a boutique pedal I would maybe start with this good little pedal.
It's a great pedal to start with, only don't be put off by the Metal name,it can do a lot more then just Metal.
It's one one of those pedals that people seem to love or hate,
but for the money you really can't go wrong.

Lots of pedal for the price. Most useful is the EQ portion. Can change the sound of any amp from clean and sharp to downright dark and dirty........ then you can add the distortion. This is NOT your average "rock" pedal..... just too much pedal here. BUT, if you want metal or HARD rock or sounds you just can't get with other pedals or pedal combinations.... this one would be perfect. Works best on a Fender or similar amp that has a "sharp" glassy sound from the factory.

Perfect for quick metallica sound if your on a budget. If you work the knobs good you will have a big killer heavy metal sound, trust me.
I also use the surh riot distortion pedal. It's a really good pedal, but more of a modern drive like, Creed, 3doors down etc...
MT2 is for the Metal Heads. Think of Manowar,Metallica etc...
MT2 is not versatile, it's made for Metal ONLY.

bought it used .legendary boss quality. it is the swiss knife of pedals and kills/destroys most other distortion pedals easily with the twist of a few knobs.if you can't get a great distortion from this pedal, sell all your gear and play tennis/golf.
this will do marshall,mesa,bogner,line6 or anything else effortlessly.dont be lazy, turn the knobs and you'll get it.

I'm usually not to big on boss products ever since they moved production to Taiwan, but this one got my attention. I've had it for a little while now and it has earned it's spot on my board. The sound is unrivaled compared to other metal distortions or distortions in general, (and trust me I spent about 3 hours trying as many distortions as I could in the $50-$150 range and even I was surprised that I walked out with a boss pedal). the amount of control you get with the EQ is great, and you can get many different sounds with this pedal, even a normal distortion sound (just keep the volume and gain under 12:00 and raise the volume on your amp to compensate). I use this for all my metal needs, from Metallica and Megadeth, to Slipknot and Korn. The only things I don't like, and what usually turns me off of boss pedals is the sticker on the face for showing dial position, the cheap plastic knobs and the cheap switch that usually seem to go or break quite often, but I got mine modded to a metal switch for about $20 and I would recommend that if your going to use it alot you do the same thing. The metal casting isn't the greatest either, its quite slim but will still take a beating, but is nothing to the MXR or Elc.Hmnx. castings and paint. Like I said before tho the sound is unrivaled and that's what really matters to a true player. For under $100 i would recommend it to anyone looking for a distortion.
I use it through a Marshall MA50C Tube. and couldn't be happier with the sound.

I love this pedal as a sudo-eq but I found that even though there are more options on this guy, I feel like it has no soul. It's hard to explain but I do think it's a good pedal. Here's a hit though, if you don't know what your doing, start from the presets in your manual, otherwise you'll get lost in all the knobs.

I chose this pedal over the other Boss distortion pedals because I can get a wide range of distortion sounds from this pedal by adjusting the equalizers and distortion levels. I can get crunchy even punchy or fuzzy distortion sounds. If it sounds good to my ears then I'm happy.

It's a great pedal with lots of tweakability and decent sound, but if you don't mind spending a little more you can really nail that metal stack sound by getting somebody local to build you a "Dr Boogey" pedal. It's an emulation of a Mesa Boogie dual rectifier's lead channel, in pedal form. It's got loads of tweaks, an epic Mesa crushing sound, and more gain than you can handle. It'll probably run you around $200, but it is worth every penny. Check it out on Youtube.

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty
A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.
Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.
How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.
Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.
Purchasing additional years of coverage
Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.
If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:
NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
