A conundrum of excellence that is love or hate. It's more like a flat EQ boosting, square Fender distortion effect than a Bluesy OD crunch. Like fuzz, you can find crunch, but narrowly. BUT, it's all signal strength dependent, which makes it VERY expressive, which lends to the Blues moniker. A Kenny Wayne Shepard Blues Rock style, even John Meyers specific, over general genre is adequate. Prince very much LOVED the expressions it reacted to. With at least solid state amps, there's areas of static sizzle layering, like a dusted volume pot. This also leads to Blues-like genre, ie, old gear. Not my want at the moment, but perhaps when I've learned to play more (much more) Blues, or handle modulation better, I'll get back into it. No plans to depart with, though will loan. Also is great for "transparent" boost pedal, though the Behringer SF300 or an EQ pedal have more use if just a boost is needed. They'll do transparent or personal colouring, allows room to expand.

It is an excellent overdrive/distortion pedal in conjunction with the rest of my equipment. The "rest of the equipment" (amp, other pedals in the chain and guitar) have an important effect on how it sounds, and for me, it sounds excellent! Although, I would have preferred to have a full circuit unit (mine is a surface board)!

I was expecting a lot more from this pedal. It's good quality because it's BOSS but I'm not happy with the sound at all.

I was surprised that it does exactly what everyone says it does, at least in the positive reviews.
Yes it could get fizzy if you dialed it in poorly but that has nothing to do with anything. It is not generally a fizzy drive pedal at all. It will liven up a solid state rig no problem.
The difference I noticed with the BD2 is about as dramatic as getting an entirely new amp for clean-ish tones and light overdrive. Perfect for chords, like Johnny Marr kind of drive with a lot of clarity. If you like analog solid state amps like I do and don't want to mess with tubes, the BD2 can get you close to that fender deluxe sort of vibe.
The main reason I bought it was to give a little oomph to clean jazz...seems every other drive pedal I have adds too many mids and ruins it if I use them for a clean boost. Not so with the blues driver. It doesn't mess up my eq and adds a lot of dynamics used in that way.

The pedal sounds great although not as a "creamy" overdrive as the description exclaims. It actually works better as a bright, edge of breakup simulator. I use it as a mild volume boost that allows my soft picking to chime cleanly, but add grit to chords or notes I hit harder. It also sits I front of a RAT (with a medium distortion setting) on my board to hit the distortion harder if I need it. For these uses, it's great.

I play everything from Hendrix to Slayer, and I really wasn't expecting this thing to sound like a distortion pedal. But when I crank the gain and roll my volume knob up to 10, this thing produces a pretty raunchy metal tone. Throw a little reverb on top and I can get a pretty nice DeMartini/Lynch 80s metal tone. With the gain at about 4 or 5 I can get a good bluesy SRV/Hendrix tone as well. All in all I'm very impressed with the range of tones I can get. And like everything Boss makes, it's virtually indestructible.

I have several overdrive pedals of all shape. But this Boss Blues Driver is one of my fav. This one has worked with me in number of gigs, as it is always reliable. If you like overdrive, this one is a must. I personally like it more than TS808 as it is more versatile.

A very good pedal from BOSS that does the job well. It can give you a more metal sound while still having that bluesy feel. I had an issue with the light originally but over time it fixed itself.

Another winner from Boss. Read lots of reviews on this one, but once I got it I really understood how awesome it is. My PRS, DS-1, BD-2, into my Traynor.....what a great sound. Very happy with it, highly recommended!

This is a great overdrive pedal. It can go from a small clean boost to fairly overdriven tones. Its not for you if you want a high gain tone (metal or heavy stuff) but its great for rock or bluesy stuff. They are getting a little more expensive so finding a used one would be a good find because boss makes durable, quality stuff.

I avoided this pedal for years because of the name. I thought it would be a cheap and crappy attempt at a tube amp. Instead, I loved it so much, I grabbed a second. Full tone overdrive, not "screamer" mid push. Excels at mild OD, but has a fun gained up sound too.

This may be the best overdrive pedal, ever! Nice overtones with enough crunch when you need it, and a mellow sound when you play soft. The closest you can get to the classic tube amp sound without a tube amp. No wonder they call it Blues Driver, it's perfect for blues and classic rock.

This pedal sound great with a tele! If your into Cream, Clapton, Delta Blues or Keith Urban you will love this pedal. The only problem i have is running this pedal with a compressor turned on. It actually kills the sound. I play alot of blues and country music and i have yet to have trouble matching the sounds on a CD. Great for price and very versitle.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: Starting at 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. Starting at 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
